It was built because of two important reasons. The first is because it honors the creator, Mitsuteru Yokoyama and his home town. Second it is also a monument to the earthquake that hit Kobe, and will be used to help attract tourists to this city. I believe this statue will be permanent, unlike the Gundam, and will remain standing long after the human race dies out. Hopefully, because this statue was a success, more cities around Japan will take the plunge and construct their own giant robot statue; come on, do it for God Len. Now time for me to ask (beg) Chicago to build a life-sized GaoGaiGar.
