Let's Go Live-Action: Harems and Hapless Youths

I really, really, REALLY want to see an Ooku movie <3

Comic Natalie has word of two live-action adaptations today: the first is Fumi Yoshinaga's Ooku, which is being made into a movie. I'm horrifically excited about this because I love Yoshinaga's work, both the yaoi and non-- I maintain that she does some of the best character studies I've ever seen in manga. Plus her art is beautiful! Ooku takes place in an alternative version of Edo-era Japan, where the nation has adapted into a matriarchal society-- due to the fact that most men have been killed off by an unusual disease. The story follows the men who are part of the Empress' harem.

Also getting a live-action flick is Solanin, a slice-of-life drama about a girl named Meiko who's just graduated college, only to find that she hates her job, and her boyfriend is crashing on her couch because his illustrator job doesn't pay enough for him to have her own place. Meiko has to deal with a growing suspicion that she just can't handle living in the real world.

Both manga are being released in English by VIZ; Solanin's single volume came out back in October, and Ooku's first book is due out in August. I, for one, am interested in both films (and now need to go out and read Solanin). How about you?

I've read Solanin and it was a nice read through so I'm pretty excited for the film release now.

Oooohh... Oooku dorama?  I can't wait!  I hope it is awesome.
