Leo to 'Cast with Japanese People' for Ninja Scroll

Leo likes them Japaneses.

Oh, man, all the news is practically in the headline. ANN has translated an article from the Nikkan Sports paper in which Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly is thinking about casting the Japanese idol group SMAP as the leads in the upcoming live-action Ninja Scroll flick, to be produced by DiCaprio's Appian Way in conjunction with Warner Bros.

The members of SMAP are:

  • Masahiro Nakai (possible romantic interest of Kumi Koda; co-host of The World's Frightening News)
  • Takuya Kimura (voice of Howl in Howl's Moving Castle)
  • Tsuyoshi Kusanagi (fluent in Korean, and has starred in Korean dramas and movies as well as Japanese)
  • Goro Inagaki (voice of Ratchet in the seventh One Piece film)
  • Shingo Katori (voice of Riiya in Akazukin Chacha)

The group has released various CDs in addition to their excessively numerous roles on various variety shows, dramas, movies, etc. They're hugely popular with Japanese women, of course, and would make for a very interesting casting choice. I think Shingo actually speaks English, but I'm not sure about the rest...we'll see if it comes about.
