Kumi Joins Kenichi For Kamui

Kumi Koda to modernize an opera tune for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the manga Kamui Gaiden.

Tokyograph reports that singer Kumi Koda, the Japanese Beyonce and perhaps best known in the anime world for her cover of the original Cutie Honey tune in the Hideaki Anno -directed live-action Cutie Honey movie, as well as themes for Gilgamesh and Law of Ueki , is involved in another otaku-related project.

A live-action film based on Sanpei Shirato's seminal manga The Legend of Kamui (Kamui Gaiden) was announced last year, if you don't remember, and it stars Kenichi Matsuyama-- best known to us as live-action Death Note 's L , although he's got a slew of manga-related roles, including Nana 's Shin, Sexy Voice and Robo's Robo, and Detroit Metal City 's Soichi/Johannes Krauser III.

Koda is now set to do the theme song for the film, called “Alive,” which is actually inspired by the aria “Laschia ch'io pianga,” from Handel's opera Rinaldo. The song's not due out until sometime in the fall, probably not too far from the film's own release date, September 19th. In the meantime, here's the aforementioned aria...I can't be the only opera fan here...Can I?

The clip, if you're curious, is from a film called Farinelli, about the famous 18th-century castrato singer of the same name (although the singing in the film is done by an interesting technological mix of a soprano and a countertenor to simulate the voice of a castrato).

It'll be interesting to see Koda's take on it!

No not the only opera fan Gia. That's a beautiful aria. :) Oh, Koda Kumi totally did the voice of Lenne and sang the two big songs in FFX-2--that's where i know here from!

Yea, the 2 FFX-2 song were great, I hate how Square Enix used someone else to sing the English version. To make thing worst, Kuda included the english version went she release the single in japan. I really like Koda Kumi and she hot too.

Japanese Beyonce? HA. HA. HA.

First, the Original Beyonce cant hold a candle to Jenny Hudson. I care about how many accolades a artist gets these days over the numbers.

Second, calling her the Japanese Beyonce might be a insult to Kumi. For I cant gage her talent just on some equalivancy that is at best, lazy.

Third, playing devils advocate, if these is the Japanese Beyonce then where is the Jay-Z? The Destiny Child? Lol.

@Agent_Lost: Aww.. don't go hating on Jade Villalon. I liked her. She and Koda both brought different things to the song-- I thought.
