KNIGHTS OF SIDONIA + More Anime on Netflix?

THE VICE PIT. What happened to all those frames?!?!

I enjoyed Knights of Sidonia. The faces are hard to distinguish like Attack on Titan, but there was a reason for it. The characters have clones of each other to bolster the population. The gene pool is quite limited due to extreme conditions they live under Gauna attack. The mangaka was skilled in drawing buildings and architecture which the CG lowers his potential of showing in the anime adaptation. The CG is there to make production much cheaper. I had no problems with CG because the whole show was in CG. For me, it's awkward to see CG blending with drawn out animation.

Netflix doesn't make a good impression of itself by claiming Knights of Sidonia as their original series. If the company wants to compete with HULU, Crunchyroll, and FUNimation, they have to aggressive and get simulcasts. While I heard from Zaldar that Netflix has more dub anime titles and more older titles, Netflix's library feels smaller than the three companies.

Wow unless Netflix added fan service .. um thats the 1st part of this review that boarders on hyper sensitivity to the point of hyperbole. Thats not a insult but I feel like I have been. Because no where ( not just this site) have I read in any comments about the show, that talk of fan service. An worse having watched the series it did not have fan service every where! So in this case I guess I'll trust my lying eyes.

An the um point about the models an clones an masks cgi etc etc. Maybe ya did not catch this but its based off a manga? Knights of Sidonia an from what I have seen from manga to anime design, it looks fairly spot on. Design wise of clones etc was in the book not because of some cost cutting cgi. Which oddly enuff was praised about how well it looked too. Tho some wonder if the cgi can stand the test of time like animation does.

Problem with cgi is it has to compete with video games. If you want to see cgi thats blends fairly well into the action that would be in Black Lagoon. Also note cgi in movies was supposed to lower cost to make films an has raised them instead.

This is may not be just a case of opinions vary. Or wool over eyes. Please leave sheep out of this. This is just a gene you may not like.

Hmm looks at the trailer from Netflix..

Not seeing added "fan service" so hmm. An from people who have seen it they seem to enjoy it. Even tho Netflix is telling a bold face lie that its a Netflix Original. They can not even get the show summery right . They refer to the main character as " low-born youth" an he is not. Also they have it as TV-MA which is funny because " The Young Adult Library Services Association listed Knights of Sidonia in its 2014 list of Top 10 Graphic Novels for Teens.

Also of other noted opinions......"The anime series was received with high praise by famous members of the Japanese anime/game industry, like Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear series, who claims that "It's a kind of anime that we haven't seen for a while that has that sci-fi spirit. Using digital technology cultivated through games, it creates animation that encapsulates Japan's cultural assets like manga, cel animation, kanji, giant robots, etc. What's born is a unique made-in-Japan work that could never be cooked up in Hollywood. Japanese culture has lost its "cool," and Knights of Sidonia will be the white knight that saves it." Other industry pros left acknowledgements as well, including Akiko Higashimura, Digitarou and Yoshinao Dao. which quotes from

An yes it does have the old school Battlestar Galactica feel. So hey that part was right. Sorry guys just gonna have to depend on my lying eyes over this review.

Wait wait wait...mat...YOU DIDN'T LIKE FUTURE DIARY.....???????? THE FUCK????? Wow...ok. I loved it so yeah different tastes we have (though I guess fact you dropped fool last season about when I thought it started to get good should have told me). As well the fact it is hard sci-fi aka analog (assuming you mean the old sci-fi magazine that I think Arthur C. Clark and Asimov got their start in) is actually a good thing. We need more of this. I mean did you not like 2001? Going to have to check this out, though I expect the lack of inbetween on the animation my bother me as it did in the preview a good world (I love world building) can make up for a lot of that.

I also liked Future Diary, but I see why folks would dislike it. It's very controversial.

Also, I remember another thing that brought up, the characters in Knights of Sidonia have a lack of expression diversity due to being CG. It's more of a sacrifice when you make a show entirely CG. I wonder what would happened if they took the non CG route. Would it make the anime better?

Then again, visuals are not a big determinating factor because most fans care about the story and the characters if the animation isn't as horrible like Flowers of Evil'sRotoscoping.

@takashichea: yes characters, story, worldbuilding much more important to me than animation. But I come from novels not comics (which I have never collected) which makes me different than many at the site.

Actually, a lot of folks share that same priority like you.

Really seems to not be true sometimes based on comments heh. I suppose I should try to find time to dive into more of the site then just the front little time though.
