Hah… just when the COWBOY BEBOP live action movie seems to have docked permanently, Keanu Reeves has started circling another Western anime adaptation. Vulture says the dude may be dropping Spike's cheap suit for Kaneda’s leather jacket, as he’s now being courted to play the lead in the Hughes Bros’ remake of AKIRA. Considering how Keanu’s a good 30 years away from his teens, and how Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling were the last actors considered for the part, it’s safe to say that the character’s been significantly re-conceived from the anime and the manga.
If this flick does go through, Warner’s committed to dropping some serious scratch for it. The budget’s been tallied at $230 million and, even if that’s divvied up between two movies, that’s still a huge chunk of change. They’ve been trying to find another studio to co-finance the flick, but it might fall entirely on their pockets and, if that happens, then they’re really going to want a bankable star to lead the movie. Enter Keanu. As I recall, this was pretty much what happened with the first MATRIX movie.
Keanu’s inclusion will probably get a lot of you lunatics’ blood boiling. Let’s hear the yays and nays.

This crap'll be debunked soon anyway.
why must hollywood continue to entice me to do violent things toward them...
It will be like a polio vaccine. One and then you are done. Make the live action adaptation, with an all American cast, and with a bastardized script so is that we don't have to deal with bullshit rumors ever fucking month. Anime fans should just bend down and take a knee this time so is that we all can just move on with our lives and pretend it never happened.
Jesus Christ just give to Uwe Boll or the dynamic duo of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer so is that there is no illusion of this movie ever being good. But for the love of God just make the fucking movie.
There's a lot of truth in that. Now that a Dragon Ball movie was finally made, we never have to wonder why Hollywood doesn't capitalize on that popular license. They did, it sucked, what's up next? If they make this "inspired by elements in the anime/manga Akira" movie, then we can get a bit excited at first followed by complete demoralization when it arrives in theaters. Then there will be a few 4Chan memes. Finally, we put it behind us and wonder when someone will make a live-action Naruto movie.
You know, I'm okay with this. I honestly am. However, when they cast Nicholas Cage for any role in this movie, then I will call haberdash on this whole premise. Not to mention last we heard about the Akira movie, wasn't Zac Efron cast as one of the lead roles?
