Kaiba's Yuasa Presents Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei Trailer

Yum.

The master of the Mind Game-- and director of the anime film Mind Game --Masaaki Yuasa, also known for the more recent and phenomenal Kaiba and occasional work on the Crayon Shin-chan anime, is hard at work again on a new anime called Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei. The show is airing this spring, and a trailer has hit the web.

We've talked about the show off and on since it was first announced; it's based on a novel about a senior in college looking back on his time in school. It looks like a somewhat melancholy piece, but true to Yuasa form, it'll also be pretty thoughtful, dynamic, and...weird. Probably a little on the surreal side.

What say you? Does it look like something up your alley?

Having been a student and teacher in the Japanese educational system I'm very interested to see this. If it's an authentic look at the peaks and pitfalls of school life over there it should be educational as well as fascinating. The artwork looks quite stylistic, but as long as it doesn't descend into shonen/shojo slapstick I'm holding out hope for it. Oh, and a soundtrack by Asian Kung-Fu Generation (they did the opening theme for Full Metal Alchemist, Rewrite, among others)? Neat!

YES TO THIS. Masaaki Yuasa is a god and it's depressing that he'll never be appreciated by fans outside Japan the way he should.
