Japan’s Top Selling Blu Ray Discs Revealed

See who’s really big in Japan. (spoiler: it’s not Haruhi)

Oricon has just announced the big winners of the great Blu-ray race of 2009. This survey took place between December 22, 2008 and December 21, 2009. However, this is not ranked by most sold, but what made the most money. Because we all know that the most important thing in this world is money... and rocket punches; yes, money and rocket punches. Let’s take a look.

1. Evangelion:1.11 You Are (Not) Alone - 590 million yen
2. Bakemonogatari Vol. 2 Mayoi Maimai (Limited First Pressing) - 390 million yen
3. The Dark Knight - 370 million yen
4. Bakemonogatari Vol. 1 Hitagi Crab (Limited First Pressing) - 370 million yen
5. Bakemonogatari Vol. 3 Suruga Monkey (Limited First Pressing) - 370 million yen
6. Darker than BLACK - Kuro no Keiyakusha- Blu-ray Box - 360 million yen
7. K-ON! #1 - 320 million yen
8. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete - 310 million yen
9. K-ON! #2 - 280 million yen
K-ON! #3 - 260 million yen

Evangelion selling well is definitely not world breaking news here, but The Dark Knight being in third just might be (hold up I’m calling CNN.) K-ON! And Bakemonogatari took three spots each this year, meaning we will be getting more of the same in future anime seasons. This might be good news, or bad news for some of you, so I’m just not going to say anything.

K-ON! collecting at least 860 million yen in Blu-Ray sales is depressing. Darker than BLACK placing number 6 is promising at least.

Wow, Batman is pretty popular in the East too.  Must be the voice, or Heath Ledger's Joker
And all 3 Bakemonogatari sales combined add up to 12.4 million in USD.

Oh yea, Bakemonogatari. Believe in the power of Senjougaraha.

Well, its interesting since the price on the items are not even. The limited editions, which are supposed to be "limited" probably sell for much higher, so I'd be curious to see actual units going.
Also, glad to see that Baki, Batman, and Eva dominated the charts.

Disregarding the warring opinions of K-on, Bakemonogatari getting sales that high cannot possibly be a bad thing.

Glad to see Bakemonogatari and Darker than Black up there.
