Japan's Life-Size Gundam Is Complete!

Do want!

Man, I wish I could be spending time in Japan right now. Luckily for us, Danny Choo is, even if I can't be-- and he has word that the 1:1 scale Gundam in Odaiba has been completed, and damn, that was quick! Which is pretty much the only thing keeping me from assuming that the thing actually works and that I'd better not try to start any wars for fear of retaliation from said Gundam.

So, next time you're anywhere near Tokyo Big Sight (the locale for Comiket), take a look around and you may be able to see this 59-foot wonder somewhere nearby.

...Well, assuming that the next time you'll be there will be before the end of July. The Gundam is only supposed to be up until the end of the Gundam 30th Anniversary celebration. I can't imagine why Japan wouldn't want to have a giant permanent life-size Gundam statue up though...maybe we'll get lucky and they'll be able to install it longer-term somewhere.

Here are a few of the shots; more at Choo's site.

Not much longer before a life size Zaku comes to challenge it.

I came.

I'm gonna laugh when the thing suddenly turns on and attacks N. Korea

I'm no Gundam nut, but I must admit, this is quite impressive.

Now to make it functional and life would be complete.

Nice RX-78-2 to bad it doesn't work.

That's pretty sexy.  I'm surprised they didn't make a giant Mario or a giant Dragon Quest Slime.

WOW Very cool, but Japan should have done this a long time ago to stop the Godzilla Attacks:P

I have already contacted my people in Japan and they assured me that I am still first on the list to pilot the Deathscythe, slated to roll off the assembly line in 2013

I am going to see it in July XD
I'll take lots of pictures!
Sigueon June 9, 2009 at 1:24 p.m.
They only pretend it isn't operational. It's only up until the end of the celebration because that's when it flies off into the sunset to defend Japan.

So many things I could say....

Where to start.... well, how about my initial reaction:

Second Thought: Hey North Korea! Better read Ezekiel 7:25! - "Destruction cometh; and they shall seek peace, and there shall be none."

Third Thought: Sadly.... another quote came to mind "Neither will alone, nor strength alone will be enough. I feel that this machine has the power you're going to need." -Lacus Clyne

To bad it's not real.  It would be nice to see that Gundam go to North Korea and take care of business.
