Japan Bans Rape Games (For Real This Time)

Grrrraaaaarrrrrgh!

So, first we were outraged, then relieved. How much outrage do we have left on the meter? Because Canned Dogs now reports that the EOCS meeting that was set to take place today has come to the conclusion that they have to ban rape games. Really and truly this time.

Zepy's summary suggests that the game company representatives didn't even argue-- that there was an overwhelming sense that this was the only option, and that no one voiced the sheer absurdity of the situation, that they were essentially having to ban a specific fantasy.

I've already discussed my personal feelings on how stupid the move is a couple of times, so I won't reiterate for now. The facts of the matter are that the EOCS will work to regulate the games so that “rape games” are banned, but the specific nature of the regulations have yet to be worked out.

Boo. BOOOOOO.

While I'm against censuring stuff, I don't really play these rape games so can't say I feel strongly about it.

In Japan, they came first for the rape eroges,
And I didn’t speak up because I didn't have a rape fetish;
And then they came for the lolis,
And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a lolicon;
And then they came for the hentai,
And I didn’t speak up because I didn't like hentai;
And then... they came for me...
And by that time there was no one left to speak up.

D'oh ! Most stupid censoring move indeed. Tought crime is now effective !

lolwut just made the same point I was about to. Even if you don't care since it's just rape games and you don't play those, what's to stop them from the next "little" thing?

A 0.5% increase in sales tax may not be much by itself, but it adds up over time if you catch my drift...

And all because a bunch of [BLANKETY] [BLANK]s who are too narrow minded and ignorant. All I have to say is burn in [BLANK] you [BLANK] [BLANKETY] [BLANK] [BLANK]s.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO......  Why would you make a rape game anyways?

I feel the same, but the thing is that this opens the possibilities to ban other things now as well and that might eventually affect us by baning something we like. Again, this isn't going to change anything, the opposite in fact as it makes some of these people feel good for thinking they have contributed and now they have done their part in this issue. Thats BS.

Now only outlaws will have rape games.

Seriously, this just means that production of these games will move elsewhere, and the games will be digitally distributed.

When will politicians learn that censorship. doesn't. work.

Y'know I was coming into this article thinking, "I don't care for rape games or whether or not they exist". But then I read through some of the earlier articles and made a turnabout.

I thought "You know, that thing about that these pictures etc. doesn't actually hurt anyone makes a lot of sense. They are just ink on paper, or pixels on a screen. The true heart of the matter and the thing that really bothers me about a picture, is that somewhere out there someone is enjoying this thing that I find repulsive. Frankly speaking, IT'S NONE OF MY DAMN BUSINESS WHAT OTHERS FANTASIZE ABOUT."

I believe that these are the true motives behind people trying to ban this stuff. Even if they are not aware of it themselves and justifies it to themselves by thinking "these pictures would cause people to act on their fantasies". I believe that these people just can't accept people having a different mind than their own.

Maybe alot of the worlds problems stem from this, and it's ironic that if you live by the code of being "open minded" you can't really force your open minded ideas on others either. Meaning that what we really need is for each person to grow up in an environment where they learn to accept that people can be vastly different. That...is going to take time. Maybe it's completely impossible.

Lastly here's some self-critizism. My idea's is mostly concerned about teaching the generations to come to be more open minded (there's that word again), but there's nothing that says you can't try to change people's opinions now. The people of today is not a lost cause, even if it's easy to think so. I also have no idea where to start.

Phuua! That was quite a rant. I'm a "more talk, less action" kinda guy so I won't actually be doing anything about this though :x

Edit: Actually watched the Penn video. Wow, I feel inspired and armed with enough good arguments to defend this anti-censoring now, if someone brings it up.
