Sam Weller is a writer and actor who's scribed for shows like FIRST EDITION, GEEK THERAPY, and most recently BATGIRL: SPOILED. He also really likes anime. To know what is going to happen next, follow@cravesam

To quote Daniel Bryan.
NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!
It's a show for little girls, and bronies are creepy.
My Little Pony is as much an anime as Batman: The Animated Series was. I'll let people make their own conclusions from there.
Friendship is always magical when you're friends with Sam Weller.
Flash animated so yes as in cartoon, but no for anime.
nope, not by my definition of the word,
and ever since I became an Anime fan I have grown a bit uneasy watching American toons, even some of the stuff I grew up with like Animaniacs or Batman no longer charms me the same way they might have when I was a kid, one might say they almost feel kinda..... foreign to me now,
however I do agree with Sam, some people just like Anime, and some people just like animation in general,
I just happen to fall in to camp A,
MLP is an Anime (technically), all Cartoon are technically are
I fell out of MLP fandom awhile ago, I guess it was a phase for me
Anyway, I like all kind of shows, but the ones I really like happen to be anime
MLP is 0% anime.
@Destinyheroknight: Time to put up an Adventure Time page on Anime Vice? How about Phineas and Ferb? Do you truly believe all animation is Anime?
@AgentJ:
Yes, all Cartoons are Animes and all Animes are Cartoons. The only difference is they are made in different countries. Well technically, some of them are send to a different country to be finish (Korea or sometime Japan). I always wonder why we have special name for Anime, but don't have any special name for other animation from a different country (it usually just cartoons)
Fun fact: Some of the specials animation from the first My Little Pony was by Toei Animation (so technically you call that Anime)
Hopeful what ever real illness that has befallen Tom is mild an brief.
Now Sam while true friendship can be magic.An in some cases necromancy .But um the My Little Pony border thier was a step to far.A line was crossed.... eyes were harmed by the pastel ponies.
The same argument could have been made with Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt .More importantly my eyes would not have been tortured by pastel hell!
...just sayn.

There is a reason we use the Japanese term "anime" rather than calling it all just cartoons. All animation is not anime and pretty much nobody uses the term in that way. You may very well be the only person that would label Steamboat Willie or Rocky and Bullwinkle as anime.
@sickVisionz:
Anime is short for animation in Japanese. So yeah, to them Steamboat Willie is anime.
The plural of anime is anime, BTW, folks.
@Destinyheroknight said:
To them, yes. But not to us. If you pick up a "how to draw anime" book at Barnes and Noble, they don't have Mickey Mouse examples. The anime section at Best Buy or Frys does not have Animaniacs. Anime is one of many words that has seen it's meaning change as the culture it is used in changes. And using the "traditional Japanese meaning" doesn't do anyone any good. Because frankly, I don't have any interest in adding those pages to the database here on Animevice.
Merriam Webster's definition:
@AgentJ:
Merriam Webster's definition:
It should be to all, the word Anime was only created by Anime fans to try to separate from the word Cartoons because they don't want people to think they are watching Cartoons. So the word was corrupted over the years and we got the wrong definition
@Destinyheroknight said:
"Corrupted"? That is how every new word in the history of language has been made. They needed a meaning for something they couldn't otherwise express easily, and one was made. Webster's recognizes it (and you know they look into the history and origins of a word). It is the natural process. Not a "corruption".
@AgentJ:
Merriam Webster's definition:
We already have a word for it (it call cartoons or animation)
@Destinyheroknight said:
That doesn't specify what sort of animation it is though. And I feel like you know that. To say "Japanese Animation" is seven syllables, a ridiculous number for two words. Anime is nice and simple. For someone that I assume values the Japanese culture, you don't seem to be familiar with the country's propensity to condense words, often creating new meanings in the process.
@AgentJ:
So why don't we have special words for animation that was made in France or Canada or America or UK or Korea? Why do we have to separate other form of animation?
