HUNTER X HUNTER :: The Chimera Ant Arc Review

THE VICE PIT. You asked us to comment! Now, Sam and Tom have very different opinions about HxH's longest arc ever.

sickVisionz moderator on Aug. 12, 2014 at 6:25 p.m.

I agree with most of what Sam said about the arc (I didn't enjoy any of the side characters though) but I came out of the arc feeling like Tom. This arc had a ton of great ideas and good stuff padded out with the most worthless of characters getting dozens upon dozens of episodes dedicated to their characters.

I'm enjoying the current arc though. Killua isn't crying as much, his brother is in it, Hisoka is in it, like York New there's very little Gon (I can take Gon but not Gon x crying bromance possible yaoi romance Killua), and it seems like Kirupika is about to show up.

This is pretty funny I literally just thought to myself 15 mins ago I wish anime vice would do a review for the rest of the chimera ant arc ....and behold... here we are lol

If you only watched the ones you did the write ups on tom then no you stopped right at the king vs netero you never saw pitou vs gon. Not seeing the depth of the kings character was such a loss for anyone who decided to drop it. He's a unique enemy in every sense of the word. And the arc ended in a way that a normal shonen wouldnt .

I'm not gonna be a complete worshiper though the ant arc did have its problems mostly do to pacing. As for the story I felt it was on point 100 percent. Anyone I ever hear complain about the story mainly just has the " why didn't they do it this way" kinda complaint when you can almost say that about every anime. I mean come on its shonen.

I really liked the arc although there were many aspects I wasn't too fond of.

First of all, I actually didn't like the introduction of the arc very much. It felt disjointed and in a bad way, like this was no longer a continuous narrative but a piecemeal tale. The first few ants introduced except for Colt weren't too interesting, but things really picked up when the King came along, and a little before that when Pitou took out Kite. I wasn't too fond of he training period, but I did like Knuckle.

I also liked the gungi games between the King and Komugi which were always very tense. The first few minutes of the invasion were the best, but things weren't quite as interesting as it continued, and it was really Pouf's antics that kept me for the long run.

I loved Netero vs Meruem, but not so much Gon vs Pitou. There were a few things I found too convenient, but overall the arc is my 2nd/3rd favourite of the series, but that may honestly be due to its length in comparison to the others.

The chimera arc had some ups and downs. while it ramped up the action and the stakes, there were some really slow moments. i didn't mind Gon and Killua disappearing for a few episodes. it's nice to watch a show that has so interesting a cast that i can afford to throw some of its protagonists aside in favor of others.

Admittedly they placed more focus on some ants than i cared for. but that didn't affect my enjoyment of the arc, especially the great finale

lol - don't know how i missed this video earlier this week.....

First off fantastic video

From following Tom’s Write ups on this i have been waiting for Sam's take and honestly me myself i'm pretty much in 60 / 40 between Sam and Tom on this.

I won’t make a long post because i already did my own review on it y’all should check out but yeah this show can really come down to perspective and many fans fall into either the glass is half empty or half full kind of view on it and honestly i think thats part of what makes this show so great in terms of storytelling

I do have my problems with the show / manga but overall i think it’s still an outstanding character piece on many many levels

again good video guys…good synergy as always
