How Newtype's Haruhi Info Was Fail

FAIL, Newtype. I SAID FAIL.

Well, a lot happened went on while I was in New York that wasn't con-related. So first off, everyone thank GMan for helping out and sharing some of it! Then sit back and relax while I do my best to pump out the rest of it (plus, of course, today's news).

Canned Dogs has a summary of Newtype's fabled March issue, which everyone was excited about because it was supposed to have more info on the next season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya...until we had adleak fail.

The basic summary? The magazine is vague, and never even explicitly states that the April airing (whose mention on the cover was mistaken for the second season's start date) is a repeat, as Kadokawa came out and said. Or...DID they? Well, we all remember that they did, but now the article that originally said so has been altered to use similar vague wording to the magazine's.

Zepy offers the following possibilities and observation:

1) Repeat of season 1 in April, season 2 continues immediately after

2) Repeat season 1 but with new episodes shuffled in

3) Season 2 starts in April

4) Repeat telecast of season 1 and no season 2

If you pick the right possibility and place your bets now, you can claim to have been able to see what Kadokawa was trying to do all along and become a superstar and all will worship you. If you pick the wrong one, all will ridicule and you will tear up all the haruhi novels and send them to the wife of Kyoani’s chairman.

My optimistic side votes 1, and my pessimistic side votes 4. How about you?

"2) Repeat season 1 but with new episodes shuffled in"

This would be the most dickish and funniest possibility. I almost hope they do that.

Well I guess number 2 would partially make sense because Bamboo leaf rhapsody a major story tied to dissapearence was set mong the first season episodes we only get vague hints as to bamboo leaf.

If the image that accompanies Canned Dog's summary is from the article, that's a scene from Disappearance, where Asukura made stew and was a friend of Yuki, who wore glasses in the alternate reality. I think that indicates Season #2 is in the works, if not ready for broadcast. That's my bet. (Of course, worst-case scenario, they could be teasing us with a stock image.)

I don't think it's likely to be a 'stock' image. That said, i'm just so utterly fed up with Kadokawa >_<

I'm just going to forget all about a Haruhi second season until/unless it actually shows up.

I'm very pessimistic so I'd think that it'd be the fourth option... but my Haruhiist side says it must be one because God likes to play around with us.
asian_prideon Feb. 10, 2009 at 7:56 p.m.
I'm optimistic about this. Hopefully it's going to be the rebroadcast and then the second season following it shortly after. I mean, they show a pic of Haruhi in Koukyen High School uniform as well as Asakura with the pot and everything...so I'm guessing that the Second Season (Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya) is out there...somewhere...either way I'm not disappointed at all and the only thing I can do right now is wait and finish all of the novels. There's no point getting upset.
