Happy Holiday Giveaway: The Grand Finale

And the final winners are!...

Sorry it took so long to get this out, folks-- my travels have kept me busy in a different way than usual! But enough of my poor excuses, let's get on with the givin'!

 Azumanga Daioh
 Azumanga Daioh

12/29 Winner: Lady_Nightmare

Lady_Nightmare posted to her blog asking about darker-skinned female anime characters-- an often-discussed topic amongst cosplayers! It inspired me to start my own list of such characters, although it's very incomplete so far. Lady_Nightmare wins an omnibus of Azumanga Daioh-- the older ADV Manga version, mind.

 Speed Racer Box Set
 Speed Racer Box Set

12/30 Winner: zyn

I didn't really do a big "Best of 2009" list this year (and I've mentioned why a few times), but that didn't stop zyn from doing his own! And very extensive awards they are, with best OP/ED music and sequence, best in a variety of genres, best seiyuu, best cast, best animation, even best season...will have to reference this back if I plan on doing something at the end of 2010! Zyn will take home the Speed Racer manga box set, from Digital Manga Publishing.

Not the cover of the artbook!

12/31 Winner: Konanda

Our final winner of December 2009 is another secondy, Konanda, who went on a review blitz with seven reviews of seven volumes of Record of a Fallen Vampire-- which he wasn't terribly fond of. For the potential warning, Konanda gets a Fullmetal Alchemist artbook.

Whew! That's everyone, and the end of our contest. Thanks to everyone who's been making Anime Vice a great place to be, especially those of you who I didn't find a good chance to acknowledge-- you are appreciated more than I can find a good way to express.

Stick around, because there's a lot more fun (and plenty more prizes) on the way!

Congratulations to the winners.  I own all four volumes of Azumanga Daiho. It's a great series.

Though, I had yet to get my prize in the mail. I'm curious if it had been sent yet.

@FoxxFireArt: That's the problem with running a contest that includes the holiday season. Even those few moments I theoretically had time to get to the post office, it was JAM-PACKED. I'm getting out all the rest of the prizes this week, as soon as I have everyone's addresses; I'm only missing a couple :)

Thanks! I had just finished reading Record of a Fallen Vampire volume 7, which I got for Christmas and had the other 6 sitting their in my room and was kind of bored on winter break so I decided to write some reviews of them.  However...

I want to clarify something for those who may have only read the first review.

*The TL:DR version is at the bottom*
I do quite enjoy reading the Record of a Fallen Vampire series, the problem is that it starts of fairly mediocre. This sentiment is present in my volume 1 review and actually the only volumes I didn't enjoy at all are volumes 1 & 4. This is because well the first volume for the most part is just some kind of cool fights that don't really seem connected and a bunch of characters being introduced, where volume 4 is mainly about advancing the main story.

The thing is the main story is kind of lame and is more just an excuse to bring the characters together. This is because the three main characters (2 vampires and a half vampire) in particular are over a thousand years old, which just so happens to be when the Kingdom of Night (a nation filled with vampires) was destroyed. Through the three main characters what happened in leading up to that destruction from a millennium ago and the event itself are revealed. The author, Kyou doesn't actually develop this really cool backstory system (told through flashbacks) until volume 3 and than takes a break in 4 and comes back to it in volumes 5 to 7. This is the aspect I really like about this series and the reviews show it. (with volume 7 ranking with my top recommendation of 5 stars and a 4.5 and 4 for volumes 5 and 6 respectfully)

*TL:DR, I think Record of a Fallen Vampire starts off poorly and really develops into something very special in volumes 5 to 7, with a honourable mention to 3. Volumes 1,2,4 are mediocre.

Ya my first prize has yet to be recieved after four weeks, however that`s just Canada Post being made of suck. (epseically around holidays) To elaborate I recieved a Christmas card from a friend in the same province and only three hours away that she sent a week prior. So I imagine to have a package be delivered from Sausalito, California to rural southern Ontario is going to take quite a bit of time. Part of this has to do with the mailing address being in a more rural area. (not in the middle of nowhere but outside of the city) Either way I`m back at university so I won`t be going back to where that mailing address is from soon. So another week or two isn`t a problem.
