Halo, Anime?

Wait, a whaaaaaaaat?

The sky is falling, and the oceans have turned to blood, Halo is going to be made into an anime. No, I’m serious. Microsoft will be working with five anime studios to create seven short films called Halo Legends; ala Animatrix. These five studios are as follows: Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio4 C, and Toei.

The man taking control of the project is Shinji Aramaki, who directed Appleseed and Appleseed Ex Machina; so you know it’s going to feature lots of CG. Microsoft will be making sure all these different anime studios don’t mess up this franchise; so they will be doing all the writing. However, they are giving these studios free reign on how the short looks. This will be released on Xbox Live, DVD and Blu-ray early 2010.

Must be the hour, or the fact that I've been doing data entry for the past eight hours, but I initially mis-read the title of this article as "Hello, Anime?"

As to the content:  If they skip most of the 'plot' of the game and just take the concept, and if it turns out the Master Chief is actually a female high school junior under that armor, then I might be willing to watch a Halo anime.

ah, I want my little girl inside of the Sparta armor. I guess there at this point, where the only way they can remove the helmet is for comic relief.

I called this about 3 years ago:

According to ANN Shinji Aramaki will be doing a short about the history of the Spartan Warriors and Studio 4c is making two 30 minute long shorts covering the 100,000 history of the Halo universe. Whats really going to make or break this will be Microsoft's writing,if they can come up with good scripts then this well be  one to watch. On another note how much do want to bet that there are a whole bunch of Halo fanboys flipping out that their   precious game is being tanted by  "gay" anime.

If its the people who did Appleseed then it is all set

Somehow this reminds me of the short animated stories made for The Matrix.

It seems they've been really trying to expand the Halo universe for some time now, what with the novels and the RTS. Hearing them making an "Anime" version with that in mind doesn't seem to surprising to me.

There's a lot of good material in the Halo setting. So long as they don't cling to the games themselves, this should end up being relatively interesting.

Oh Yeah should be pretty good...I hopeXD

The panel (which Aramaki is meant to be attending) is being liveblogged (1.5 hours, 16:30pst) :D

This is awesome but as long as it has the whole Animatrix different art feel to it.
HeeroYuyon July 23, 2009 at 3:44 p.m.
I'm gonna ignore all the stupid "the multiplayer jocks are just gonna make fun of it" comments. Personally, I think this could be really cool. Especially with big names like those behind it, I'd say this should be really good. And contrary to popular belief (you morons who skip the cutscenes and wonder why you never see any story), Halo does have a rather detailed story.

Awesome liveblog revelations. Mamoru Iishi for god(len)'s sake!

I just saw the trailer and it looks pretty cool. I've always liked the Halo story and I like that their doing this Animatrix style where different people will be doing different episodes.
