Gunsmith Cats Creator Kenichi Sonoda Launching New Manga Series

Will the new Bullet the Wizard series return to his questionably healthy gun-loving ways?

Few manga artists have had as much of a deep impact on my fandom as Kenichi Sonoda. As the artist behind Bubblegum Crisis, Riding Bean, Gunsmith Cats and more, in the early 90s his works defined the way I thought character designs should look...and instilled in me an unnatural desire to find a girlfriend just like the gun-toting Rally Vincent. (You find them at NRA meetings, by the way.)

With his Gunsmith Cats saga all wrapped up in both Japan and America fans of the artist will be happy to hear that Kodansha's August issue of Monthly Afternoon has announced Sonoda's new series beginning in its next issue, Bullet the Wizard.  While no details are available just yet the "Bullet" part of the title implies a return to his gunslinging ways, but the "Wizard" bit...who knows. Is that "Wizard" as in pinball wizard, or Harry Potter the wizard? Astute followers of Japanese manga anthology rags will known July 23 when the next issue of Monthly Afternoon drops.

Familiar with the work, yet haven't really watched much of it. Sounds interesting though.

I don't really know much about the author,  but I was looking for some old school anime/manga to look at.

@Necxs: Those three that I mentioned in the post's first paragraph absolutely will not steer you wrong.

@Boddington:
This is cool. I got the revised edition of the first volume and I loved it.

The amount of detail in that series for guns is astounding. That must of been a nightmare to translate and fact check if that person wasn't a gun person.

OMG OMG OMG!

Kenichi Sonoda was THE guy to get me into Manga.  Seriously Gunsmith Cats was the thing that through me over the edge and into fandom.  Before that point I had Neon Genesis and while I was interested it hadn't completely hooked me.  Then I found the Gunsmith Cats OAVs, then I had to hunt down Riding Bean, then I bought the comics, the rest is history. :)

I've enjoyed all of his work (Even EXXAXACON I have no clue if that's spelled right. :p)  and I can't wait to see what he's got up his sleave now.  I can only hope it's fun gun bunny filled adventure!

@Boddington:  Great! I'll give it look see.
