It's a bit of a blast from the past, but many
Gundam fans, or anime fans for that matter, born in or after the mid-'80s cut their teeth on the hot robot-on-robot action of
Gundam Wing that broadcast here on Cartoon Network. Besides novelizations very little of significance has been heard from the
After Colony warrens of the Gundam-verse for a decade now, but that all changed yesterday with the announcement in
Kadokawa's Monthly Gundam Ace magazine that a new manga based off
Endless Waltz is in the works.
The news comes from the Japanese-language blog
Kyō mo Yarareyaku (via
ANN) and says that Tomofumi Ogasawara (illustrator for the novelizations
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and
Zeonic Front) will provide art while Katsuyuki Sumisawa, writer of the orignial
Gundam Wing series, is penning the story. The new story will be named
Gundam W: Endless Waltz: The Glory of the Defeated. Try saying that three times fast.
Always with the elaborate titles. Endless Waltz as a movie was good but what will they do with a continuation so long after? I feel like this is an anime example of the Terminator series.
Indeed but T4 was good for me (action wise). I would really like to see an update of story and animation for Wing since it's my favorite Gundam series (only one I own, too).
Making a manga doesnt get me excited though. Gundam Wing had its go.
I'd be so much more interested it was announced that Yoshiyuki Tomino was returning to Gundam with a new story that followed up on the immediate aftermath of Char's Counterattack (Gundam Unicorn notwithstanding) or a sequel to Turn ∀ Gundam. I'd also be interested in a series by Tomino documenting the end of the Universal Century era leading in to the Correct Century era.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
DON'T MESS WITH MY FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MEMORIES ANY MORE D***IT!!!!!
Endless Waltz was plenty ending enough! They blew up their Gundams, wiped out the remaining mobile suits owned by the Mariemeia faction, had epilogue scenes for all the characters, and they even managed to tie it altogether reasonably by finishing off the man who started it all - Dekim Barton (the man who wrote the original operation meteor).
What on EARTH could they possibly add on?! The only way I could see this going a good direction is if (judging from the title of it) it focuses on Treize or one of the other magnificent bastards as a sort of sidestory from during the main series.
Gundam in general though doesn't have a very good history with the manga format... (and G-Unit was just plain stupid and nonsensical).
And I used to think "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz - Special Edition" was a mouthful...
