Gonzo's New Project: Super Street Fighter IV!

Yay! Gonzo's back! For now!

As you know, we've been chronicling what's been going on with Gonzo, an animation studio in Japan that's been teetering on the brink of nonexistence with no new anime projects (that they've announced) and a LOT of reported troubles, including bits and pieces of them being sold off. Recently all they've really produced is trailers for games, so it's been unclear whether there was something else on the horizon.

But now we know that there is: Gonzo is working on a new OVA for Super Street Fighter IV titled Juri, and a production trailer is already out. It'll also be directed by Kizaki Fuminori, perhaps best known for directing both Afro Samurai and its movie follow-up, as well as character designs for the Galaxy Railways TV series and animation-directing Blue Gender.

I think I recognize a few voices, too-- how about you? <3

Is this a sign that Gonzo is getting its business back in order? Optimistic, I always hope so-- but we'll have to wait and see! In the meantime, are you interested in the OVA itself?

Juri kicks absolute butt in the trailer, very cool since there is a Super Street Fighter 4 coming out soon. There were some familiar voices in there could quite put my finger on them though:)

Cool trailer.  I love street fighter in animated form, but can anything ever live up to the Vega/Chun Li fight scene from the Street Fighter 2 movie?

(Fight starts at 3:30, though the shower scene that proceeds it may also be relevant to your interest)

HELLZ YEAH!  This is one of my most anticipated games this year and to know that Gonzo is doing the anime cut scenes for it makes me even happier.  The anime cut scenes in the first game were terrible.

That trailer is certainly promising.

One thing that kind of confused me was how fast Super Street Fighter IV is coming out when Street Fighter IV just came out.

@AHR: Akuma vs Ryu in the Generations OVA is more kick-ass

Sweet, I can aways you some SF action.

Well, Gonzo needs some money, so good for them.

I like the production values I'm seeing.  Those fight scenes look great!  I do like my stylized violence!  Even as someone who skipped out on SFIV, and is only familiar with the lore of SFII; this still looks like something to be seen.

Dig Deeper into Street Fighter

There have been several anime series created around the world of Street Fighter and the games in that series. Most of these spin off titles feature things from the universe of the Street Fighter 2 video game such as the main antagonist being M.Bison.
