GHOST IN THE SHELL First Connection Online Trailer

And this shooter actually looks... pretty kickass?

It'd be a real amusing get-around if the publisher was that anxious about selling this with a 'T' rating instead of 'M.' Don't worry - - just cover all the head-shots up with 18+ stickers!

So many cyberpunk games have paid 'homage' to GHOST IN THE SHELL, it's actually a little weird to see the property play itself for once. My first thought watching this was that it seemed like a faster and more fun DEUS EX. And that fits. HUMAN REVOLUTION might as well have been GitS: THE GAME.

There's some double weirdness, of course, in the fact that FPS games don't typically come out of the Japanese games business. The title suggests that they're... ahem.... aiming straight for online multiplayer, but I like the fact that they're relying heavily on squad-based combat and a hierarchy of RPG abilities. Play this, and you'll get a few more balanced choices in Section 9 if you don't get to play as Ms. Motoko, perhaps?

What say you, Vicers? What do the scanners on your ocular CPU units say about this?

1st thing... um Nexon is a South Korea company that is making this. Japan not part of making this game.

2nd thing if it is only whats in the vid it will draw some attention at 1st then fade away. Their has to be more to it than a fps GitS skinned game. It has to have some thing other than pew pew.

3rd it looks good enuff but its the play that matters. Be more than a more serious Team Fortress 2 an it can go places.

Also of note it looks like it will be free to play ( f2p). That could be a good thing but with shooter based games it more than likely draw the trolls out of the internet wood work.

I thought the trailer looks pretty awesome. Although, I was a tad confused why they were using the GITS: SAC designs, rather that the new GITS: ARISE designs. Although, with the new designs, they wouldn't get to use the Laughing Man logo. I would actually be pretty disappointed if the Laughing Man mark was removed in the actual game. It at least needs to be an optional setting.

I don't know about Japan not having any role with that game. The first part of this trailer shows the Kodansha name with the Production I.G logo. Kodansha likely hired Nexon, since they specialize in online games. This certainly does show some craft. I'm sort of in awe at all the options this trailer shows.

When I saw this trailer, I was more thinking along the lines of online co-op shooters, such as SYNDICATE. Just showing the range of abilities makes this look very appealing. I just question any real Western support for the game. Not when it comes to Playstation or X-Box.

Just starting a new online game can be a real crap shoot. How does one compete with established games in the genre, such a TF2? That already has a really passionate user base. I'm sure people will try this upon release, but it needs a hook to keep them coming. It's the same problem with all the dozens of MMORPGs out there trying to nip at WOWs user base. They all suffer the same problem. They aren't WOW.

Looks fantastic, and I'm not typically a fan Of online shooters, it makes me wish this Was an offline game instead, also what is it with Korea and online games Lately?, I mean I know there already popular Everywhere else, but it seems like every time a game from there gets attention it always ends up being an online game, like Blade and Soul For instance,

SERIOUSLY PEOPLE? You are not out for blood on this????? ONCE AGAIN, Tom you are missing what GITS is about. This is a disgusting disservice to the anime which as I said elsewhere was not about pew pew. This is an atrocious waste of code and time and Nexon should be ashamed. I thought at least Marshal would be upset .... sigh.

Secondly a more fun Dues Ex??? Are you freaking serious??? Making Dues Ex faster destroys the fun! I refer of course to the original not the crappy sequels. Like GITS actually Dues Ex was not about the shooter mechanics but the story and the philosophy the story dealt with. Not even on the largest levels of deciding who to side with but in each individual mission what you decided to do had consequences. FPS became terrible when they moved away from this and only recently became good again (in Bioshock, Half Life 2) when they went back to it.

As this is the video game industry like the movie industry once again destroying an anime classic it is time to bring out the pitchforks.

Reminds me of the PS2 Version...But WAAY more advanced. However, I didn't see any ghost diving or Hacking of the enemy to move about. Stand Alone Complex (PS2) had this. Other than that...this looks awesome!

Dig Deeper into Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

Taking place in AD 2030, Stand Alone Complex is the continued adventures of Public Safety Section 9. S.A.C is considered independent and separate canon from the events of the 1995 Ghost in the Shell film.
