FUNimation's March Madness

FUNimation starts up a March Madness, otaku-style.

Sorry, Baki!
Sorry, Baki!
Err, I'm sorry, “Sangatsu no Madness,” as Adam Sheehan calls it on the FUNi blog. It's a pretty cool idea-- various FUNimation shows are pitted against one another in brackets a la the NCAA basketball teams. I'm not into sports, but this, this I could get excited about.

I'm not going to go through ALL of the first rounds and pick my winners, but I am definitely expecting that One Piece, D.Gray-Man, Soul Eater, Evangelion, and Fullmetal Alchemist will make it to the second round, leaving Suzuka, Moon Phase, Lyrical Nanoha, Kodomo no Omocha, and Baki the Grappler in the dust.

Disagree? Think Kodocha will kick Shinji's whiny ass? And hey-- do you think Black Lagoon will beat School Rumble, or vice-versa? I'm torn on that one.

Share your thoughts here, and/or FUNimation's blog. Awesome idea, FUNi! (But I'm still going to tease you for the weeaboo name next time I see you.)

Thanks for the call-out, Gia.
I'm glad you find it interesting =)

I'll take Black Lagoon over School Rumble any day of the week.

Then again, if this is like the real March Madness, then all of these games (except the first seeds, because those guys never lose) are as likely to be decided by a coin flip as they can be predicted by looking at past performance.

Oh this is so cool Witchblade to the Sweet Sixteen Baby!!!XD

DocHaus: my personal vote would be Black Lagoon over School Rumble, and if we were talking about an actual battle between the characters, Black Lagoon has the firepower...so to speak ;)

That said, I'd have a hard time telling you which is more popular!

I feel that Soul Eater would lose to Nanoha and Nanoha would ride all the way to the Sweet 16 with Beck.  I also have Yu Yu losing to Love Hina and Afro going to the Elite 8.

I already decided to not fill out a bracket for the NCAA tourney this year so I doubt I'll fill out Funimation's (also due to lack of passion for popularity contests like Saimoe/ISML). I'll give them credit for the timely tie-in, though, and I AM interested to see how the story of each match and round will be told.

Cool idea, but the whole thing seems a bit boring since obviously it's just a popularity contest, so the big names like FMA, One Piece, or Eva are just gonna go to the top and leave any lesser-known but equally awesome show like Nanoha in the dust (though their dub wasn't too amazing...)
