FUNimation and iTunes team up for Comic Con exclusive anime releases

Cheap anime? Sign me up!

San Diego Comic Con is just around the corner, and I can't wait to go. I can smell it already! Not sure that's a good thing. Anyway, anime fans may be pleased to hear that FUNimation and iTunes have partnered up to bring us some new good deals just in time for Comic Con, including free episodes, discounted seasons and more.

AnimeNews.biz reports that the first episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist, Ouran High School Host Club and Soul Eater will be free, while Samurai Champloo and Afro Samurai eps are 99 cents per episode. You can also get any of these shows at a discounted price for the entire season (30% off). Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles and Afro Samurai: Resurrection are also on sale.

This whole celebration goes on through August 3rd, so there's no reason not to snap something up, especially if you have a long flight to get to Comic Con and need something to watch. Going to pick anything up, my friends?

This would be way more awesome if you couldn't watch the entire series of most of these shows for free on Hulu.

Most of those shows are already available, but so many people use iTunes it wouldn't hurt to get some audience from that marketplace

@sickVisionz:
As much as I like my digital music and video so I can take it anywhere, I prefer having boxsets. I like being able to watch anime online as I can find new shows and rewatch old ones. But if I like an anime I'll buy it when I can so I can watch it on my tv instead of my com. Come on, you know it gets old watching in low-def and putting up with damn commercials.

Yay! Free and cheaper are good things. FUNi only does work with X Box so doing something more with iTunes is a good idea. But FUNi should be working on things for the PS3 (fellow Japanese product).

Even when I have a box, I usually watch it online.  My Naruto boxes all have unskippable commercials so I can usually load up a CR stream faster than I can the DVD.  I'm watching on a HDTV (laptop with HDMI out) so pretty much any anime on DVD looks like crap and I can't tell the difference between streaming and DVD.  When I can, it's usually the streaming one that looks better.

Also, the article makes it sound like none of this is for physical products, just the digital version.

Well since I never got into Full Metal Alchemist I might try the free episodes.  Toss em on my iPod and watch them on the way to work.  (Yay Vanpool!)

Dig Deeper into Afro Samurai

This series takes place in a post-apocalyptic Japan and follows the silent, stoic samurai, "Afro," and his garrulous companion, "Ninja Ninja," as he seeks out the fabled Number 1 warrior in all the world for revenge for his father's death.
