FUNi Jumps on FMA: Brotherhood for Simulcast

Oh, sweet delicious simulcasting...

I'm sure you're about as surprised to hear that FUNimation has acquired the license to Fulllmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood as if, y'know, the sun had risen this morning. (Oh look! It did!)

But this might get you a bit more excited: FUNi will also be simulcasting the anime. Oh yeah, baby! The subtitled episodes will be available on FUNimation's video player subbed starting on April 9th, at 10am (I'm guessing that's Central Time, where FUNimation is located?). No word on price, so I'm guessing it's free, since I think everything on the FUNi player is so far. A little bit last minute on the announcement there, FUNi, but I can't say I'm not completely and utterly thrilled. Can't wait to give you guys my first date review on the new show!

Oh, but that's not all: they've also announced that they've got a deal going with Toei Animation to broadcast even more anime on the FUNimation player. They're starting out with Fist of the North Star, then moving on to Digimon Adventure 02, Slam Dunk, Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999, Pretty Cure, and Air Master. Look out, Crunchyroll!

High five, FUNi! I saw this news last night and was thrilllled. Seriously, I'm more excited for FUNi's awesomeness than I am for the series itself. :P

Huh, I thought the license for this just went along with the old FMA...

Kinda like "I wonder if Funimation will pick up Dragon Ball Kai guhuh guhuh" (which I know they have plans for >_>)

This is really great news and a step in the right direction for the industry as a whole :)

I'll still buy the DVDs though if they have the same (or very close) casting as the original FMA as I think it's one of the best English dubs out there.

darkcyder: considering that the sequel hadn't been made (or even announced) when FUNi picked up the first FMA, I don't see why you'd think that-- sequels always have to be negotiated for, although theoretically if FUNi had been aware of a new series back when they negotiated the original, they could have negotiated for the new series as well. But I doubt that's the case. And even if it was, they'd still want to do a new announcement to get attention :)

DJTyrant: it WILL be interesting to see if FUNi retains the entire cast, considering that the new series in Japan will feature mostly new cast members (aside from Ed, Al, and IIRC Hughes).

This is great news and means I don't have to touch any fansubs for this! :D (I doubt I'll buy the dvds of this since I didn't for the first series).

Now make this available outside of North America and I'm all for it.

But that's most likely not going to happen so I'm back to my torrents together with our new IPRED law :(
Sweden is starting to suck.

The only questions I have left are related to the quality of the video itself and its availability in Canada.

okand: There ARE other simulcasts in the work, but off the top of my head there's Australia and Animax's Asia's networks.

This makes me very happy!
