I’m not quite sure how you say the title aloud - - FATE SLASH EXTRA? FATE OR EXTRA? - - but this new anime-styled J-RPG spinning out of the FATE/STAY NIGHT franchise looks pretty spiffy. Aksys Games just informed us that they’re bringing this game stateside on November 1st in a few different retail versions. The physical PSP copy and PSN download version run for just under $30, but an additional ten spot will get you the limited edition bundled with the soundtrack CD and FATE VISUAL WORKS art book.
What about the plot, though? Well, it shakes out like this…
Waking up in a strange virtual world with no recollection of the past, the main character finds themselves forced to fight for survival in a war they do not understand for a prize beyond value; the opportunity to have one's wish granted. With only an enigmatic “Servant” by their side, the protagonist will have to face both friends and foes in battles to the death in order to not only gain possession of a mysterious object known as the "Holy Grail,” but also to find the answer to the most important question of all: "Who am I?
Two-to-one bet says that last question will be answered with the coveted wish. Though, if your past actually sucked and was better left unremembered, I can imagine the player’s going to feel quite silly for the wish that way over, say, turning into a 50 foot gold giant instead.
Anyway, I’ve always been too impatient for turn-based combat, but the press releases’ description of all the abilities, special moves and “code casts” sounds like insure some variety in the usual tit-for-tat. I’m sure we’ve got some lunatics who’ve done some time in the FATE/STAY NIGHT world. How does this news bode for you? Me? I just think the pictures are pretty…

You don't pronounce the / you pretend it doesn't exist. Also the gameplay is really just rock paper scissors. I'm just looking forward to seeing female Nero
I've always dug the Type-Moon art style and I enjoyed the Fate/Stay anime so I'll probably check this out.
Also, when did Saber's skirt become transparent? S'probably been for a long time but I have only seen the anime and I'm pretty sure it wasn't in that.
Edit: Didn't really sink in right away but this game is coming out this November? They sure are announcing that pretty close to it's release. Unless it's been known for a while and I'm only just finding out now.
@SuperWristBands: Not the same Saber
I imported the Limited Edition of this game when it came out and I must say that I am surprised Aksys went for it considering the limited niche and PSP sales situation. Gameplay is very mediocre - some boring maze-crawling, literal rock-paper-scissors battles. The only reason to play it is if you are a Type-Moon fan and want to know the story (which is quite good and typical of Nasu Kinoko). But apparently it sold well enough to spawn a sequel.
Anyway, in case you didn't know this is an alternate universe spin-off of the main Type-Moon "Nasuverse" IPs. The characters that look like existing characters are for the most part actually different people.
I don't want the game, I want another season of the anime!
