Fall 2013 Anime Guide -- AV MOD MATERIAL

What new shows are coming this season?

Welcome to the Fall 2013 Season Guide! Our 3 Vicers have worked hard on compiling a list of trailers for new and returning shows. Here are their impressions.

Acura Max

This fall season looks to be another good one as usual. Working with Taka and Bigheart711 on the fall trailers, I got the chance to see a lot of anime that I would not have noticed before. Here are my thoughts on some of the anime that I found to most striking. The first one I noticed was Kyousogiga, an anime series that I had noticed last year when I saw its preview. What stuck out most to me in this series was its colorful scheme and surreal nature. I liked that it seemed like an Alice in Wonderland on drugs, which is saying something when Alice in Wonderland is an allegory on drugs. The other series I found interesting was Pupa. It's story about a boy with quick cell regeneration and his sister who eats her brother for food. The premise seems really out there and I would like to see where it goes.

BigHeart711

As hectic as my summer was, gathering trailers for Taka and Acura was fun. Like Acura, I also noticed Kyousogiga, but it think it happened to be the most unique out of the stuff I found for this fall, considering that it's about a warped town that a priest, a demon and a monk have a connection to. Also on my plate was Kill La Kill for the most interesting story (I attend a crazy school too, but not thatcrazy). My other choices are Pupa, Pokemon Origins, Beyond the Boundary, Strike the Blood, and Wanna Be The Strongest in the World. I'd choose Madoka Magica the Movie Part 3: Rebellion, but that'd require flying to a theater in Japan and I don't have the time, sadly.

Taka

The Fall season has a lot of returning shows like my favorite shows: Valvrave, Magi, and Kuroko's Basketball. I'll be watching the Pokemon Origins Specials with BigHeart711 and Valvrave with Acura. We've been excited for something that didn't have Ash Ketchum for a long time. One of the new shows that stood out to me was Kill la Kill because it was produced by a new studio, Trigger, and with some staff from Gurren Lagann. I watched Gurren Lagann for the first time back in May 2013 when Crunchyroll was streaming 3 episodes a week. It was an intense and entertaining show. For Kill la Kill, the art is similar to Gurren Lagann except Kill la Kill has more detailed backgrounds. I have to dial back my expectations. Usually, the shows that are anticipated to be the top show for that season tends to drop down. That happened to Attack on Titan and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet back in spring 2013. Finally, these three shows will probably my guilty pleasure: Diabolik Lovers, Walkure Romanze, and Wanna Be the Strongest in the World.

Please enjoy the anime guide. Stayed tuned for the OVA, Movie, and finally, a Simulcast guide. Thanks goes to Acura Max, BigHeart711, and Takashichea for their hard work.

my picks so far are Golden Time (done by the same guy who wrote ToraDora, a romantic classic), and Outbreak Company, an anime about an otaku becming an ambassador to an alternate dimension, and is in charge of introducing anime and videogames into this world, but with a story a lot deeper than what it lets onto....

and of course, Pokemon Origins! a must watch if you played Red/Blue/Yellow back in the 90s! (and early 2000s!)

metalsnakezeroon Oct. 7, 2013 at 12:36 p.m.

So far I got Coppelion and Kill La Kill on my watch list.

I usually keep an eye out on the other series to see if they are interesting enough to watch.

Lurkeroon Oct. 7, 2013 at 1:15 p.m.

Attack on Titan was the first anime in a long time that kept me watching. I am hoping that Kill La Kill continues the trend for this anime season. I'm a little interested in Coppelion but I will wait for a few episodes to get critiqued before investing the time in it.

Everything else seems like the usual that doesn't interest me.

Marshal Victoryon Oct. 7, 2013 at 6:16 p.m.

This is a nice seaosn so far least alot of nice pilots an enuff goodness to keep me intrested.

27 titles have my intrest atm!Summer 2013 really did suck but fall 2013 seems to have made up for it.

AURON570on Oct. 7, 2013 at 7:02 p.m.

Ugh yeah again the lack of borders is kind of disorienting. But anyways here's my picks, in no particular order (brief thought):

  1. Hajime no Ippo (boxing is quite manly, isn't it?)
  2. Kill La Kill (director of Gurren Lagann, hell yes)
  3. Nagi no Asakura (sweet, chill slice of life?)
  4. Samurai Flamenco (a noitminA series from director of Kuragehime and Nastume's Book of Friends)
  5. Neppu Kairiki Bushiroad (a Gainax mecha that has been delayed until Jan. 2014?)
  6. Pupa (horror? from director of House of Five Leaves)
  7. Coppellion (nice looking post apocalyptic sci-fI?)

I put question marks because I'm not psychic, but I do have some faith in my anime predictions *pushes up glasses*.

takashichea moderator on Oct. 7, 2013 at 7:38 p.m.

I'll get the simulcast guide up soon. I just need to wait for the Anime Network and browse HULU a bit. I just updated FUNimation and Crunchyroll's simulcast lists for today.

@AURON570:

Sorry, the lack of borders has always been this way for previous seasons. If you want, you can check out the forum thread version. I did tried Nagi no Asakura because it reminded me of Tari Tari. We can chat about that show in the Nagi no Asakura Discussion. Looks like I mixed up the U with A, Asakura. My bad.

Sweet, more Kill la Kill fans. Pupa got me interested because I heard about a little sister munching on her big bro's flesh. I was like "is this some Moe horror show?"

I have been trying to fix the spacing issues because it distorts the table. I managed to fix this season because I didn't use Google Docs. Had to do everything by hand.

@Marshal Victory:

27 shows? God, you're more insane than me. Don't know if you saw my Fall 2013 Weekend Bash blog. After midterms, I went and watched a lot of pilot episodes.

@Lurkero:

Table works out for you? Just wanted to check with you. I do thank you for suggesting improvements in the past. I wanted to experiment with a new format that Acura suggested, doing a calendar format. Though, it's difficult to do it without knowing the time tables. I will do that for the simulcast guide.

@Halberdierv2:

I need to try Golden Time! Loved the Pokemon Origins special. They are doing a legal stream on Nov. 15 over at the Pokemon official TV website. You should stop on by Pokemon Discussion.

@takashichea: Sanity is by far is overated.Tho i have always heard a sane man in a insane world must seem insane.Or they quote Spock or some such.

Its a good season.So far nothing has been a disapointment .Tho a few i tried an didnt like most were slice of life. That gene is hit or miss with my tastes any way.

Even the toy/model/game comercial that was Gundam Build Fighters wasnt bad.

@takashichea: also, Galilei Donna looks like it'd be interesting.

@takashichea: As Auron570 said the lack of borders is disorienting, but the layout of the table is fine. The forum thread version is available too.

I don't think a calendar layout is necessary. You could easily put together a text calendar and that would be fine. The most important thing is laying out all the series so people know what's available. Most people will be streaming so its not urgent that they catch the premiere date.
