That said, maid cafes at cons have been going on for years now, and Anime Expo has finally announced that they'll be running one, too: the AniMaid Cafe, which is currently seeking volunteer maids AND hosts. You have to be at least 18, have a “great personality,” and be able to provide your own outfit within their dress code. Oh, and make meetings for training.
Expo being Expo, they'll surely do their best to step up the maid cafe a notch. The main thing I notice in the press release is that there'll be “live performances” in the cafe, along with food, drinks, contests, and prizes (i.e. the usual suspects). The other thing they advertise that I'm curious about is the “interactive games,” but I guess we'll see.
That said, at risk of tooting my own home convention's horn, I like KumoriCon's Maid Squad better. Why waste time waiting to get into a cafe when there can be maids running around actually being productive convention volunteers?
On the other hand, if what you want is quality time with a maid (or host), I guess you can't get it if they're running around like all the other con people. So what do you think? Will you be checking out Expo's AniMaid Cafe?
