Sankaku Complex reports on a list that has surfaced that's purported to be a list of everything that the EOCS is now banning from eroge. In reality it seems that it's a list of “keywords” relating to things that may be banned or regulated-- because, c'mon, I doubt “girl” and “student council” can be banned from sim games. Presumably these are keywords that raise flags with the EOCS, as opposed to being banned; when more official word is released I'm going to sic Anime Vice intern Eric on translating it.
In the meantime, here's the list. Bear in mind that these are keywords, and Japan has a lot of synonyms, so some of them will look like repeats translated into English.
- Rape
- Lolicon
- Gang rape
- Sexual assault
- Brutality
- “Reverse” rape
- Shoujo (girl)
- Adultery
- “Reverse” sexual assault
- Force
- Multi-play (probably refers to orgies)
- Student Council
- Bestiality
- Restraints
- Coersion
- Train Harassment
- Enji Kousai (refers generally to schoolgirl prostition or date-for-pay)
- Incest
- Torture
- Bondage/Binding
- Pregnancy
- Violation/Rape
- Slave/Servant
- Pregnant woman
- Confinement
- Conception
Just to put this in perspective, I think a bunch of these keywords would actually apply to the Sims as well as plenty of eroge.
But there you have it: erotic video games, which are popular largely BECAUSE of their ability to explore these themes without hurting anyone, will have to go around the EOCS in order to make money. Because let's face it: people have fantasies about these things. And they'd rather have a fantasy outlet for them than get into trouble trying to act them out in real life, even just in a consensual roleplay setting.
What do you think? Will this be effective at all?
I predict 3 possible scenarios:
1) EOCS company memberships decline sharply (assuming that's possible)
2) The "law" get ignored anyway (technically lolicon's been banned by the EOCS for about 3 years now)
3) There's a protest or some sort of reform that either reduces the circumstances defined or removes it entirely
I really do hope at least one of these actually happens...
4. A New system develops that uses the internet as a form of distribution.
