Emmy Rossum Pleads: Give DBE A Shot

Rossum thinks that the movie actually has the "core" of Dragonball. What do you think?

Bulma actress Emmy Rossum has spoken with MTV regarding detractors of Dragonball Evolution out “in message board land” (who, l'il ol' us?) and offers that the film is called Evolution because-- whoa! --it's intended to be an evolution of the series, and that any manga that gets developed into a live-action film will naturally be different than its original material.

My hair isn’t all blue in the film and Justin Chatwin’s hair isn’t 10-feet high, so I think everything changes a bit or gets lost in translation, so I hope that [the fans are] pleased,” Rossum offers. “I think the core of what it it and the core of the story and the core of the characters is the same.”

Rossum hopes that fans will at least watch the film before writing it off. Which is an understandable hope, but on the other hand, it's kind of odd-- if all the Dragonball fans go and see the film to determine if it's as bad as they think, then the ticket sales make it a success.

I can understand her desire to not have the movie written off out of hand, but at the same time, it doesn't seem fair to expect fans who haven't liked the trailers and stills released so far to go and see the movie because it might be better than it looks-- it's the marketers' responsibility to sell the movie, and if fans don't think it looks good, that's a marketing failure, not just fans being closed-minded meanie-butts.

What do you think? Should fans set aside their preconceived notions based on the materials offered so far and see the movie, or is it fair for them to look at those materials and decide it looks too bad to be worth their money?

I think if it looks like it's gonna suck then it prolly will.  Save your money and wait for DVD rentals or what ever.   These producers need to bring it to a new level and not expect us to just pay for anything.

I have no clue what crack she was smoking to say that, but she of all people should know the plot had been totally FUBARed...especially when her character started using GUNS, not to mention Goku in HIGH SCHOOL.
Devillyon March 31, 2009 at 11:03 a.m.
I agree with Heero get of the pod Emmy the movie sucks so much it shouldn't even be called Dragon Ball XD

It was an Epic Marketing Fail, when the trailer doesnt even look interesting its bad news.
giaon March 31, 2009 at 11:10 a.m.
I guess the best way to put it is-- if the people you pay to make the movie look good can't make it look good, you can't blame fans for assuming it's bad and saving their money for something else.

NEVER!!!!

I'll never pay for a Dragonball anything without a krillen!

I`m actually wondering how Nostalgia critic would react after seeing this movie then again i wouldn't even want him to review it he might go suicidal XD
Kuroon March 31, 2009 at 1:47 p.m.
I do feel really sorry for the actors, i mean, it isn't their fault.

On the other hand, DBE looks terrrible.

I still plan to see it , of course.
Ruby_Alexandrineon March 31, 2009 at 1:53 p.m.
Not a chance!  I wouldn't even see it at the dollar matinee!  The same goes for Tekken.
DocHauson March 31, 2009 at 3:05 p.m.
@Sigue: That Hitler meme is seriously getting overused for everything people don't like, from Hillary Clinton to Burger King. Seriously.

On-topic: Maybe I'll rent it or watch it when it hits some lower-tier cable network at 2AM for lolz. I'm curious as to how they can distill a 40-episode story arc (with 10 episodes of training and 20 episodes of yelling, bulging muscles and pulling new superpowers out of asses) into almost 85 minutes of action.
WillyFourEyeson March 31, 2009 at 3:17 p.m.
@DocHaus: You know, Lorne Michaels tried that with It's Pat!, only in reverse (unfunny three-minute sketch padded into ninety minutes...the horror!)

How does Phantom of the Opera, Emmy Rossum, end up in Dragonball??? She can't be that hard up for cash.

No... I refuse to watch it... I'll wait till it comes out on DVD and then borrow it from my cousin who I know will buy it. I aint going to spend a penny on it, if the trailer didnt catch my attention... I doubt the actual film will. And is it just me... or does seeing THIS anime turned into a live action movie, kinda make you nervous about the Cowboy Bebop movie thats coming soon? o_o'
RedRoseson March 31, 2009 at 8:41 p.m.
... I will movie hop and watch this or find other means to watch it free. I'd rather not support the movie but I must watch this for the ability to trash talk about it with legit reasons and not just based on LOL BASHING TYMEZ DURP.
Hopefully I can write a review up for it as soon as I do watch it. =) I'll be watching it with a group of people so hopefully I can at least have some entertaining commentary from them.

As for trailers and such, I believe we as viewers have every right to judge movies based on what type of advertising ploys they give. If we were to go to every movie that we've watched trailers of, that'd be quite a pretty penny. Not to sound corny or anything but people judge a book by its cover and *maybe* synopsis. A trailer is essentially like a book's synopsis.

Even for those that don't know of Dragonball, you can see the movie is sub-par based on trailers anyway... so it isn't just the DB fans that are not watching it...

I don't care what she expects, I'm still not going to see it.
shonenon April 1, 2009 at 10:50 a.m.
FANS ARE CLOSED MINDED BECAUSE IT'S NOT 100% WHAT IS SHOWN ON TV. THAT IS ALL. NOT THE MOVIES FAULT, IF IT WAS ANY OTHER FILM THAT WASN'T DB PEOPLE WOULD GO SEE IT.
