This post is dedicated to
John "I'll Eden Your East Any Day" Martone, who is (hopefully) at the airport prepping himself for a flight.
Word via
2ch is that the Sony-signed band School Food Punishment, the four-member band who did the ending theme to the
Eden of the East TV series ("futuristic imagination"),
will be performing the main theme for the second of the two Eden of the East movies. The TV series' ending was also their first (non-indie) single. Here's the ending...
The only problem is that I made that song my ringtone, so it's hard to listen to it and think "song" now o_o So let's play a couple of other songs, yes? Here's one whose visual scheme will feel familiar.
...And here's one that's got a bit more rock feel..but some of the same paper-and-doodles feel. Hmm...
Interesting. What do you guys think of this up-and-coming band?
I'm a die hard fan of Eden of the East too.
Ya School Food Punishment is a nice change from most Japanese pop and rock. It's was weird when I first heard them, I didn't expect a post-rock band to get even minutely recognized out of Japan until the sub-genre started to gain more popularity in the West. I mean other than Cul de Sac most of the post-rock bands that have gotten any real recognition have been from Montreal, Quebec or the U.K. with some from the Los Angeles and San Francisco, California area as well.
Still my favourite post-rock band is Do Make Say Think, I would say another Montreal based band called Godspeed You! Black Emperor (who are unfortunately on indefinite hiatus) but they are way more on the pure experimental music end of the scale than post-rock.
