E3 Delivers: Naruto Shippuden 2 Sceenshots, Fist of the North Star Gameplay

Both titles definitely 'wow' with their visuals and cause lustful nosebleeds for fans.

It's once again shaping up to be a good year at E3 for games based off anime, due in no small part to the new screenshots emerging today of the action we can expect to see in Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. The shots only reveal a little bit of actual gameplay features, such as the tag-team and signature attacks that will be possible to level against foes, but I'd say the visuals are the main attraction. Ultimate Ninja Storm already looked like one was playing a fight scene straight out of the series, but this sequel improves upon even that. Check out some pics below.

Next, for all you fans of 'sploding heads with funky acupressure, 2D-X.com is reporting that gameplay for the new Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage free-roaming fighting game is, contrary to that franchise's history, actually good. The main bulletpoints are that this isn't a straight-up Dynasty Warriors clone as many had feared, the characters have a great deal of unique nuance that require more than just button mashing, and the visual aesthetic is more realistic, with no cel shading. One issue that had plagued the import version, video lag, is supposedly a problem of the past in the American one that will be released later this year.

Personally, I can't wait for both of these titles to come out, but I have a special place in my heart for anything Fist of the North Star. Any anime-based games in particular on any of your wish lists this season, Vice readers?

Hooray! Another generic Naruto beat 'em up. Sorry, but after playing the games on the PS2 for so long back in high school, things like this are to be expected where a new game needs to emerge to compensate for the progression in the story.

^ These are fighting games, not beat-em-ups.  And where are all of these games that play like so close to Ultimate Ninja Storm that it makes it generic?
Liminalityon June 16, 2010 at 6:02 p.m.
@Wales: No...

I wish it had a more options, online or a better story mode, but the fighting was the best I've seen.

Can't wait to play this one online on my PS3.

@sickVisionz: Okay, I mispoke on the first one, mixing up the beat'em up and fighting genres. However, to me, these games are generic due to having similar premise (i.e. you fight scenarios that are based from the show and complete minigames for whatever item it is, be it money or hidden characters).

@Liminality: Yes it is different from the Ultimate Ninja series back on the PS2, but the premise is nearly identical. Instead of a 2D plane to fight on,you have a 3 Dimensional one, and things look more stylish I admit. However, on the other side, you have support characters that can come to aid you if needed during combat, when you power up your chakra and hit an enemy, you do a special move and if you charge up enough chakra, you and your opponent play a simon says-esque game to see how much damage it'll do.

Forgive me for being skeptical, but my opinion is the same.

@Boddington: Glad to hear that the FOTNS is a not a true copycat DW game. I actually want to give it a try now.

i saw footage from ninja storm 2 on GT, and it looks like a 3D anime, good transtion, excellent art, effects, and by all means, easily the best looking naruto game yet.

I do hope this isn't generic... not saying it because I will buy the game, but I do like Naruto and making a bad game for the series is not good

@sora_thekey: Hoping it's not generic also. The way it seems to go with franchise games, though, they're more evolutions than revolutions, which can be boring and maybe a bit generic.

@Sonata: I'm a DW hound myself, so I wouldn't have minded much. Glad to hear they're taking it in a slightly different direction though.

I have the first Ninja Storm and it's a great game can't wait for the second to come out. Especially with a fresh Shippuden cast.
