Dragonball Evolution Toys That Don't Suck?

Sweet good-lookin' Jesus!

You guys probably remember the god-awful Dragonball Evolution toys that were presented well before the film came out, and that they did not get anyone excited for the film-- they looked awful, and they looked like they played pretty awful, too.

But from that toy guru, the legendary Rob Bricken, comes word of two really awesome-looking 12” figures of the movie versions of both Goku and Piccolo . There's no two ways about it: these just look really nicely done. In fact, I had to stare at them-- particularly Goku's –for about ten minutes to convince myself that it was actually a figure, and not Justin Chatwin's face very nicely photoshopped under some obviously-plastic hair. Piccolo, who requires no hair, looks even better, perhaps by virtue of his less “normal human”-like appearance.

But Rob poses the important question: given how so-so the film was (even if it was still better than I expected), who would actually spend hard-earned dollars on merch related to the film, even if they look really good?

Would you?

No.
Though I admit they don't look half bad.

doesnt look that bad nice details but a little bit to detailed .

O i just remembered that i still have a burger king toy figure of (not)Goku which i was planning to torture, still wondering what his end will XD

The FACES are pretty impressive, but Goku's hair is fail. I wonder how the rest of it looks.

I assume these are the prototypes of the toys? Generally, the prototypes look better than the mass produced ones so I assume this is going to look decent if it's released.

Though... I don't see who would want to buy this. But whatever floats people's boats.

@RedRoses:  Actually, Enterbay's figures are exactly like their prototypes, sometimes even better. These are high end 12-inch figures, and they have a unique headsculpt style that allows you to remove the hair, and POSE their eyes 0_o Basically, you can move around their eyeballs.

@paploo: Thanks for the info! I don't really know much on Enterbay's figures so I just assumed based on previous experience from other companies that the prototypes would be better than the manufactured.

But holy smokes eye articulation!? That's insane to the max. I am absolutely loving the Mr. Bean one. I should go snatch that one right up <3

Will I buy one? No but I do see other people buying it. It was a terrible film yes, but the series (manga/anime) is solid enough that I think fans will buy them anyways.

Those look actually good. But I still wouldn't pay more than $3 for them

This equals win like the movie.

Dig Deeper into Figures

A popular merchandise type in Japan is the "figure", which can be an action figure or a still figure, generally of an anime or manga character (although there are any number of original designs as well).
