D.Gray-Man Returns! And Moves!

D.Gray-Man gets back into the limelight!

I saw a report suggesting that Katsura Hoshino, mangaka of D.Gray-Man, might be making a return outside of the planned Akamaru Jump 50-page special, but I couldn't find confirmation at any reasonably trusted sources, so I didn't post it at the time.

But now it's confirmed! The series, a slightly punky goth-themed fantasy action shounen series set in a sort of alternate early 20th century Europe, has been on hiatus since May 11th. However, the manga will be moving from Weekly Shounen Jump to Jump Square, which is monthly, so it won't come out quite as quickly.

This was announced in the 2009 Summer Akamaru Jump, a special Shounen Jump release in Japan that went on sale in Japan today which appears to feature the 187th chapter of the manga (and its final in WSJ). The first chapter in Jump Square will be in the December issue, which comes out in Japan on November 4th.

Fans will no doubt be thrilled that the manga will be back on, but the move to monthly releases will be tricksy-- the manga's English publisher, VIZ, appears to be releasing the manga on a quarterly basis at the moment, with volume 15 coming out in November. 18 volumes are out in Japan, meaning that VIZ will be caught up with that by summer next year. If Hoshino was still doing it weekly there would surely be more tankobon out by then, but on a monthly basis, VIZ will catch up to 'em pretty quickly, so the releases here will probably be a bit slower.

Still, though, better slow and steady releases than none at all, right?

Surprised at the lack of D.G-M love. Still, glad to have it back, although more for the aesthetics (mm, delicious punk/goth Victorian) than the story.

i love how i type up  a letter just to have it be deleted when i send it off to funimation .... look theres  d gray man fans  on facebook... some people didnt see the show till  all 103 episodes came and went... a lot of people have been waiting for the third season episodes 104 + to come out for some time.  One person said they waiting for the manga books to be made before more episdoes. Look I among many others would buy the D Gray Man series when the show is complete. The end of 103 was esciting.....I'd like to see the show  continue but I couldnt find a way to tell the anime making companies to return and finish the series. Its one of the best animes.
