This could lead to mild confusion amongst readers, and I'm excited for it! Word from AICN Anime writer Scott Green's Twitter account is that Dark Horse is set to publish Devil, a new Western-style full-color comic by mangaka Torajirou Kishi and Studio Madhouse. Fans of Kishi's past works might be confused: he's best known for Media Blaster's stunning two-volume plot-what-plot yuri smutfest Maka Maka (which was delicious, if that's the sort of content you want-- I talked about it a bit here), so it's a bit of a genre jump for western readers, especially since it's also clearly aimed at Western comics readers more than your average manga reader.
Kishi is known in Japan, on the other hand, for his other seinen titles. Bloody Mary is an action series, Colorful is an ecchi comedy, and i.d. just looks cool. He also did a josei yuri title called Mars no Kiss last year, so you can see he jumps genres as he feels like.
So what's the story of Devil? It's a sci-fi take on vampires, but probably not in the way of Vampire Hunter D, since the lead isn't a vampire (or part-vampire) himself. Think Vampire Hunter D meets Ergo Proxy, perhaps, at least judging from the image that's been released for the comic and Dark Horse's blurb:
"A virus is raging across the planet, turning people into bloodsucking superhumans referred to as "Devils." Most victims die within days, sometimes months, but there's a new strain, a new class of Devil that threatens to overtake mankind with power and bloodthirst. This new class of Devils derive from an experiment to clone a virus victim, and it looks like science has created a true monster this time. Can Takimoto and the Devil Investigation Section of the Tokyo police force stop this societal scourge? We'll just have to see."
Sounds like there's a lot of potential for badass to me. How about you?

There's a really awful Twilight joke to be made here featuring an alternate euphemism for a vagina, but I'm not going to make it. It's just too easy. (And not really all that funny either.)
