5 Centimeters per Second
5 Centimeters per Second
You may remember a while ago when I reported on a fan movement, Global Shinkai Day, which is intended to celebrate the works of famed anime director Makoto Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star, A Place Promised in our Early Days)? Well, the event is now coming up on February 28, and guess who decided to join the party? Crunchyroll!

The streaming site will offer three Shinkai films for free (ad-supported for non-members, I'd wager) on the 28: Voices, Early Days, and...drumroll please...5 Centimeters per Second. There's been a lot of buzz about this last title due to the “Bandai licensed it, Bandai didn't license it” (if you missed me mentioning it, by the way, I was told unequivocally at NYCC that Bandai Entertainment does NOT have the license for it), and due to it generally being awesome. This isn't a DVD release, of course, but it IS an opportunity for those of you who haven't seen the film to catch it easily.

So there you have it! Free Shinkai on Global Shinkai Day. Sounds good to me.

Slow day.

I wonder how it panned out with CR and Comix Wave, and which fans took the initiative on the idea.

I've done seven posts before it's even 9am (in Hawaii) and it's a slow day? ;)

Slow day on important news :3

Wanted to drop the note that, the 5cm CR screens this Saturday will have a totally new dub by Bang Zoom. It is not ADV's. I think the ANN forum thread has a CR guy posting updates they get from CW.

Speculation says it's because CW wanted the rights to it and probably couldn't get it from ADV for some reason. Pure speculation, however, as CW says it's because they like this dub more.
