Why, you ask? Well...TV Saitama is the station that airs Haruhi first (the reason why my original report said May 24th is that the channel whose episode list was the source airs it a few days later). So if you want to be among the first to catch Haruhi, instead of having to wait for your local airing, well, Saitama's where you need to be.
And you thought I was a crazy Harutard. I wonder if anyone is actually flying in from outside Japan to catch the episode? I bet there's at least one nutball who's going for it. (Is it you? CONFESS! <3)

Though, I guess it really is all a matter of taste. If I had $2000 laying around and enough free time, I'd probably go and catch the debut of the 7th KnK movie in theaters and I only know 2nd year Japanese...
Think about us who half to wait for someone to fan sub it.
Besides, if something big was happening, say, something Gurren related, I would go to see it as early as I could.
