During my Internet mostly-hiatus over the last month or two (...sorry!), one of the rumors that made the rounds stated that Gonzo would be adapting the popular Young GanGan manga Saki (咲-Saki-), about a teenage female Mahjongg player named Saki Miyanagi who joins her school's Mahjongg club, hoping to enter the National Senior High School Mahjongg Tournament. And those rumors, as it turns out, are true.

The manga is considered something of a curiosity because a Mahjongg manga with a female lead is rare. But I gotta tell you, when they'll moe-fy the periodic table, it's not much of a stretch to imagine mangaka wanting to replace, say, Akagi with a cute teenage girl.

Anyway! The TV anime will be produced by Gonzo, and should hit stations sometime in 2009.
