Confession Time! Lupin and Conan Drink Georgia Coffee

The latest in Japanese marketing features a brand of canned coffee.

If you've ever been to Japan, you're familiar with the Georgia brand of canned coffee, which is sold from vending machines at like 93.7% of all street corners in Japanese cities. (I made that number up, but it's probably true; the stuff is EVERYwhere.) It's not from Georgia the country or Georgia the state, either, as far as I'm aware.

It's a thing that always perplexed and amused me in particular, because my full name-- what “gia” is short for –is Georgia. (Err, that's the titular confession. Sorry it wasn't more scandalous!) So, yes, I have a couple dozen photos of myself standing next to a Georgia vending machine. (And no, I can't find them anywhere, sorry!)

Anyway. So when I see the katakana for Georgia in the news I can't help but want to know what it's about, and the latest is that Georgia Coffee is promoting the upcoming Lupin VS Conan OVA. This will mostly be in the form of convenience store advertisements and tchotchkes that come with certain flavors of the canned coffee. If you're in Japan and want to take advantage, the flavors are the Emerald Mountain, Emerald Mountain Black, and Emerald Mountain Cafe au Lait blends.

I don't know for sure, but assuming since Coca Cola owns Georgia Coffee, and Coca Cola's headquarters is in Atlanta, I'd assume it's name may have something to do with that...

You know, my dad is from Atlanta (which is NOT the reason for my name), and I still didn't make that connection, even though I knew it was a Coca Cola brand. That could definitely be it.

It might have something to do with "Sweet Georgia Brown"...

[*whistles*]

incidentally, Sweet Georgia Brown is a rather fine beer from Sweetwater Brewing, local here to ATL

My friend gave me a set of Conan's characters as a gift. I wonder how many cans he drink? :D
