Con-Mania Begins with New Guest Announcements

Who would you like to see at YOUR local con?

Okay, a few of the earlier cons have already started announcing guests, but one of the big three-- Otakon --just announced their first musical guest, so we must be getting into the season.

Otakon's first musical guest is actually a duo: the Yoshida Brothers (pictured above), a pair of dudes who actually play traditional music on the shamisen. Such a cool cultural treat is definitely true to Otakon's style, though since I rarely get to concerts at cons even when it's a big-name Jrock or Jpop artist, I don't know if I'll get to this one. So I hope you do!

Sakura-Con up in Seattle this April (2-4) has announced a few new guests: mech designer Tsuyoshi Nonaka, who worked on the 2009 remake Shin Mazinger Shougeki Z-Hen; director Yasuhiro Imagawa of Gin Rei, Giant Robo, and also Mazinger Z-Hen fame; and Madhouse character designer Yutaka Minowa, best known for Ninja Scroll and Outlaw Star. These three are in addition to Jrockers High and Mighty Color (Bleach fans, you know them!) and other guests, as well.

Soon we'll be in the swing of things! What anime, manga, and/or Jpop-culture superstars do you want to see at a con this year?

The Yoshida Brothers are a bit more than just 'traditional' samisen players:

These guys kinda rock.
