Community Spotlight: 9/23/11

Think you missed anything this week on Anime Vice? Take a look at this week's community spotlight to find out!

Welcome back Anime Vice, it's the week's conclusion, and that means it's time for our Community Spotlight. The users are working hard in the wiki database and the blogs making great content. I want to showcase much of the best of it and inspire others to join in. Check out what these users have made in the week, visit the page, and leave an encouraging comment when possible.

We had a great news week for the front page. Tom had some new video reviews, and he's ready to start a new Watch & Learnsegment, and he needs your suggestion on what series should be next. Be sure to visit his article HERE and leave a suggestion. I wrote an editorial talking about what anime series could be a MMORPG. There are two new movies coming out called Legend of the Millenium Dragon and Pokemon Zoroark, Sotyfan16 wrote an article for the series Demon Kind Daimo, and some of the best news of the week is that BLEACH is going to be having it's time skip arc coming later next month. That's two big time skip episodes in a single month. I hope you're looking forward to these events.

Ling Yao x Lan Fan, Alphonse x Meylin, Gray Fullbuster x Juvia, Happy x Charle, Kazuyoshi Usui x Sawa...

LOL What was I supposed to do?

Come check out the Faces of Anime Vice!

Where's the rest of my team?

Little_Socrateson Sept. 24, 2011 at 3:58 p.m.

@Makoto_Mizuhara_Sakamoto: Being active on the forums doesn't mean your content deserves to stand out. And of course you're more active than I am, the post I got on here is my first blog on AV. You're more active than them because they're busy being mods. If this is how you behave in the forums, I wouldn't especially feel compelled to promote your content either. Be proactive and quit whining. I figured it'd be a couple months before ANY mods saw my blog, but here we are.

Turambaron Sept. 24, 2011 at 3:58 p.m.

@takashichea: Talk about anime. And you did! Quattro x Minerva? I'm going to hell aren't I.

Makoto_Mizuhara_Sakamotoon Sept. 24, 2011 at 8:15 p.m.

@Little_Socrates: Being active on the forums is EXACTLY what I'm getting at. And the only reason I act this way is because the mods here (from time to time) act like this is Giant Bomb from time to time. Do we get trolls and spammers here? Sure... just nowhere near as often as GB, though. Sure, your blog stood out more so than most due to the fact that you actually took the time to write it, but what about those who do blogs that in and of themselves contain a vlog? That takes a bit of time to do in and of itself, trying to make it as decent as possible whilst using shitty software that comes with the OS that I'm using.

Turambaron Sept. 24, 2011 at 8:35 p.m.

@Makoto_Mizuhara_Sakamoto: You mean like how SuperEvil225's video blog was featured just last week on the Community Spotlight?

Makoto_Mizuhara_Sakamotoon Sept. 24, 2011 at 8:48 p.m.

@Turambar: Exactly what I mean.

So we are in agreement that they do feature "those who do blogs that in and of themselves contain a vlog". What's the problem?

Makoto_Mizuhara_Sakamotoon Sept. 24, 2011 at 9:10 p.m.

@Turambar: I just did one, only asking that someone who watches what I posted actually leaves a comment. I haven't even been paid that decency.

Turambaron Sept. 24, 2011 at 9:25 p.m.

@Makoto_Mizuhara_Sakamoto: Alright, if you really want to know why I didn't comment on it, then here it is. I did read/watch your blogs on the first day you posted it. But I didn't leave any words because there just wasn't any content in there for me to comment on. You begin with about a minute worth of talking about how you finally decided to review Night Head Genesis. About a minute was spent seemingly listing the summary of it you read off the back of the box, and the final minute was of you loading up the menu.

There simply isn't any actual discussion of the show itself. The reason I didn't leave this criticism as a response was because this fault should be pretty obvious to someone that watches it. No need for me to tell you what I assumed you'd already figure out once you reviewed that video. If your next episode suffered from the same faults, maybe I would step in and ask that you come up with an outline of what you wanted to say instead of letting your attention wander, and made sure there was actual content in what you wanted to say.

I appreciate that you are passionate about anime and went through the effort of making a vlog, and I understand the frustration of not having anyone to seemingly "appreciate" your work. My last three blogs all had no comments, and they were all thousand word blogs that I spent a good 5 or 6 hours each brain storming, outlining, writing, and editing. But not having comments made on them is not something to suddenly feel personally offended by. We don't blog for fame. We blog because we have something to say and we enjoy the act of setting our thoughts to paper, word processor, or in your case, video. As long as that enjoyment continues, we continue blogging. Any attention that comes is merely a bonus.

Makoto_Mizuhara_Sakamotoon Sept. 24, 2011 at 9:44 p.m.

@Turambar: Well, allow me to retort (in a short and simple fashion)- I was only just beginning to watch the series at that point (disc one, episode one). Full analysis will be given once I have finished watching the series (and yes, I have a notepad file that will chronicle every bit of information that is pertinent in each individual episode).

Turambaron Sept. 24, 2011 at 9:49 p.m.

@Makoto_Mizuhara_Sakamoto: Then hold off on a video until you are at the point where you have an opinion or analysis about the show itself. In written form, your first video amounts to "Stay tuned as I watch and write about Night Head Genesis." It's just not enough stuff.

buhssuhton Sept. 24, 2011 at 10:31 p.m.

@Turambar: totally agree about blogging, people blog because they want to spread their word or voice their opinion on internet, getting attention is just big bonus

sotyfan16on Sept. 25, 2011 at 1:22 a.m.

@buhssuht: @Turambar: @Makoto_Mizuhara_Sakamoto:

I've had a number of blogs and forum topics go without a comment. Even ones on popular anime and manga! It sucks since part of the reason I do Dunce Cap is to bring all sorts of series to light for users to learn about and discuss. But it's no big deal to not be recognized. It just means trying harder-which leads to getting better at what you do.

Despite what I might think of things, I go ahead and keep doing what I do. Doing so will help promote and upkeep this community.

Makoto_Mizuhara_Sakamotoon Sept. 25, 2011 at 8:02 a.m.

@sotyfan16: To be fairly honest, I never was- and probably never will be- interested in Artemis Fowl. Nothing against the series itself... I just haven't found anything about it to be interested in enough to warrant reading the first book.

That's fine. I'm basically doing the Off-Topic stuff as "filler" until I have material ready to get back on track and spice up the content.

Makoto_Mizuhara_Sakamotoon Sept. 25, 2011 at 2:44 p.m.

@sotyfan16: Speaking of content, did you see that I actually answered one of your questions from a previous blog of yours?

takashichea moderator is online on Sept. 25, 2011 at 3:23 p.m.

Wow! We got some voices. Hmm, the ironic thing is that this stem from a debate. It's like the other spotlight page that has a controversial image. Good times, good times.

My weekly reports of Beelzebub, Sket Dance, and Blue Exorcist don't get comments, but I don't care about that. It's for my teammates and to promote their work on Anime Vice. Also, it is to set an example for everyone in this community.

I just spreading the word and following the pack of community members on this route. The reason is that a lot of people complain that we don't talk about anime. We got it as a little ember. Just need to fan it some more to attract more wood (users).

Yes, my metaphor or simile is strange.

Oh, no. You're not. :)

Speaking of being active, I should start my first blog on Giant Bomb. All I know is wiki edit over there. I guess I do a recognition blog for Halinel and the Fire Emblem people and a recognition blog for Skies of Arcadia (GCN) for Obscurefan and the Skies of Arcadia people. I did it for Fairy Tail, Rave Master, Blue Exorcist, and Gosick on Anime Vice. It's time to show what a real historian wiki editor has to offer.

It will be awkward, but it will be worth it.

sotyfan16on Sept. 25, 2011 at 3:34 p.m.

I did. Sparking some good convo from it.
