FUNimation & Summer Wars Aims for Oscar Gold
The reports out of the Hollywood blog site TheWrap was confirmed by Anime News Network(ANN) recently that FUNimation has been working to fill out the paper work in order to put Mamoru Hosoda's 2009 anime movie Summer Wars up for several nominations in the Academy Awards. It seems a recent change in the rules for nominations was made that had denied foreign films, such as Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone , from the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. In preparations for the their bid to the Oscars, FUNimation plans some limited releases forSummer Wars into U.S. theaters starting this December. The category for Best Animated Film should be a competitive one. The nominations haven't been listed yet, but movies that would qualify for the next Academy Award in this category could include films such as Toy Story 3 and Despicable Me.

The Bad
Live-Action Dragonball Sequel or Reboot?
Well, as I was reading about all the news animes have been making for movies recently. It seems as if someone must gathered the Dragon Balls and made a wish to Shenlong. If theDragonball Evolution wasn't bad enough for you to last a life time. Seems Hollywood has decided to take another shot at it. This was confirmed on the Hollywood movie site IMDb that lists the movie as "Untited Dragonball Reboot" and set for release in 2012. This title seems to confirm this will not be a sequel, but they are starting from scratch. That bit of information itself seems to fly in the face of a Dragonball Evolution sequel that was reported on Anime Vice last year ( HERE) that was based around confirmed comments from James Marsters, who played Lord Piccolo in Dragonball Evolution. On one note, it's hard to imagine something worse that Dragonball Evolution. That speaks to at least some microscopic level of potential for something semi-decent. Here's hoping they don't crush whatever spec of optimism I have by announcing Keanu Reeves as Goku. My comments to the creators of these movies would be to stop trying to make Dragonball the anime equivalent of Twilight, with angst filled teens; and just make a fun movie.
The Panties
Strike Witches Film
If two seasons of the pantsless 501st Joint Fighter Wing wasn't enough for you. Seems they will be getting a feature film release. If users were to go to the Strike Witches official site(Japanese site), they would be treated to a short streaming clip that announces the film. It's just a teaser trailer that really doesn't have much to say. It's possible that this movie will take place after the events of the second season of the anime, Strike Witches 2; but everything is up in the air for now. Never dismiss the love people seem to have for prequels these days. This same report onANN also announced a prequel manga about a young Mio Sakamoto. While it is often called a theatrical film in most reports. There has been no confirmation if this is planned to be release to theaters or a direct to DVD release. The description could just be speaking to the length of the film. Seeing how the TV series was censored for it's original airing, but when released on DVD it was uncensored. It should be interesting to see how a movie will be treated.

Yes. Get a bunch of wrestlers, oil them up, blow up their clothes and make them shout like they have constipation and throw a bunch of special effects at each other.
I'm not being sarcastic. That's what I want from my Dragonball movie. Nothing more, nothing less.
Other than that, I'm pretty impressed with this style of article. The Good, The Bad, and The Panties.
I read about Summer Wars on ANN a couple days ago and I am very excited that FUNImation is going for an Oscar. The real kicker comes with the number of applicants deciding the number of nominations. If there are 16 or more applications then 5 will be up for nomination. If less than 16 apply then only 3 will be up for the award. There are currently 14 applicants so hopefully the Academy wants to changes things up.
They better do DBZ right this time. Hollywood gets a number of redos but when it comes to being about foreign material that isn't the case. I still keep my belief that if I was given double the budget of Evolution (was $45M) then I could do at least 10x better. I want the new one to either be based on one of the movies or the Saiyan Saga. Just think how awesome it would be to see Goku's Kamehameha vs Vegeta's Galick Gun done right!
I don't watch Strike Witches but hooray!
That's exactly what a Dragon Ball movie should be. Except with big spiky hair.
Though I'm not sure oiling them up is necessary.

This should definitely become a standard format.
And yes. The Good, The Bad, and the Fanservice. That's... really all we care about when it comes to anime news.
Agreed! Just as long as the characters and actors are not teenagers. And the hair is a must.
Oh, and another fine article FoxxFireArt.
2012?
Well, I guess I don't have to fret about that since that's when the world ends anyway. ; P
@Newten:
I don't think it's realistic to be able to maintain something regular calling it "The Good, The Bad, and The Panties". I was just trying to give all this news some context. I was dealing with some good news, some pretty bad news, and the Strike Witches stuff was more so-so.

Yeah, they're getting some more slave labor out of me. I'm a schmuck like that. lol
Learn something new everyday. Good work mate.
As for the article, just give us a piece of good news, some bad news, and some fanservice to wash the bad news down with. Doubt it'll become a regular occurence, but hey.
Speaking of which, what happened to One Fan's Opinion? Where random guys on the site write articles about various subjects relating to anime and they get put on the front page? Kinda like Almost Otaku, but they're more rants, or deconstructions. Looking back, that's probably what attracted me to the site.
EDIT
GodLen wrote One Fan's opinion. Ignore me, but I would like whatever it was that I suggested.I do wonder how the Strike Witches movie is going to be about. Just hope it isn't anything silly.
Don't know what to think about a DB movie.
Finally...
