Canaan and Other Comic-Con Anime Screenings

Iiiinteresting...

EDIT: Actually, Canaan IS showing at Otakon. Hmm!...

Comic-Con International has listed its anime screenings for the weekend, and there are a couple of interesting items...for example, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is screening on Thursday at 5:45pm, which I believe is the show's official offline premiere-- it didn't show at Expo nor is it currently on the schedule for Otakon (but correct me if I'm wrong).

Of course, there are some errors and problems as well-- like “Aira,” which I assume is ARIA. Also, “ InuYasha Movie” is airing on Wednesday for preview night...never mind that there are four InuYasha films.

Another interesting showing-- 7:05pm on Friday, Canaan. Does that mean we've got a license on our hands, or maybe Comic-Con got special permission? We'll see!

A few good movie screenings: on Thursday at 8:05pm, Evangelion 1.0 is showing. Friday at 8:20pm will show be The Girl Who Leapt Through Time; the Silent Mobius film will show at 8:20pm on Saturday.

I've got one other item I want to point out? Thursday, Friday, and Saturday there will be screenings of Iria: Zeiram the Animation at 2:30pm. The six-episode sci-fi OVA is a prequel to a live-action film, Zeiram, and features a female bounty hunter tracking down a formidable alien foe, Zeiram. I never saw the 1991 live-action flick, but the OVA was available at my local library when I first got into anime about thirteen years ago, and as such it's a serious nostalgia title for me. So if you're free around 2:30pm at Comic-Con, head over to room 25C for a really awesome classic.

Canaan? Already? Damn. It does seem like the kind of show that'd do pretty well over here though.

@Kiriska: Or anywhere else where Type-Moon fans may flock.

Boo Kara no Kyoukai should be picked up first for a license not Canaan.

@Void_Wizard: That might be a trickier license-- since they're theatrical films, Type-Moon (or whoever is handling the rights) might be holding out for a company that can promise them theatrical releases a la Bandai's Girl who Leapt Through Time or VIZ's Bleach/Naruto 1-night engagements, at a minimum.

And those events aren't easy to arrange @_@ The American licensor has to arrange everything with the Japanese companies (of which there will be many), plus the theater, which will have its own demands...tricky stuff.

So that might explain why KnK hasn't been picked up yet :)

Catching a random episode of whatever is playing on a given night is always fun, especially after whatever panels you're attending anyway. I'll definitely take into account the various recommendations!  :-)

@Void_Wizard: Don't worry, CANAAN will serve as a starter boost to build up a few more TM fans seeing as the only TM we've got officially over here is pretty mediocre by comparison.

Plus, with that time in between whoever eventually licenses KnK could build up funds to give it an honest to goodness theater release. And then all is good!

I'll believe it's licensed when I see it. I could care less about a theater release since the chances aren't high that it would be in a theater near me. The only way it would is if the same company that screened Sword of the Stranger was allowed to show it.

@Void_Wizard: You mean Fathom Events? They're the same guys that have done just about every anime movie in theaters that you've heard of thus far....

Actually I'm trying to hope for even higher.... Full blown theater release, epic commercials for it on TV and in previews for other movies... I know it's far off, but you never know. The planets could align or the Crimson Moon could rise, you never know.

And if there was anything I could do to help it get there, you know I would.
