Broccoli's profits dropped by 4%, and their operating losses were ¥448,000,000-- about six and a half times what they were last year, ¥69,000,000. Broccoli's net loss: ¥838,000,000. That's about $8.43 million USD, which isn't exactly an amount to sneeze at. It was so much that Broccoli actually used it as an excuse to file their report late.
Even their store fronts aren't doing well-- the Akihabara store has seen sales drop by 7.2%, while all the OTHER branches have falllen by 10.2%.
It's not all completely dismal news, however:
“...Broccoli’s entertainment branch, who oversees manufacturing, marketing and wholesale operations, last year experienced a boom in trading cards, CDs and other items. Especially with business sales, their trading-card game “Silver Blitz Lycee” has seen a significant increase. This among other factors have contributed to a profit of ¥297,100,000 for the entertainment branch, an increase of 2.4% over last year. “
Broccoli also hopes that its partnership with Animate will help things out, setting their sales target at an 11.4% increase by February 2010. Here's hoping they succeed!
