Who knows where they draw the line? The only thing that is saving this law is that it is so outrageous that there can be no possible way they can enforce it, without throwing many thousands of people into jail.
The Actual Wording of the Law
Here is the actual wording of the law, which clearly defines what it will impact:@GWOtaku said:
" "Who knows where they draw the line? Even anime like Dragon Ball and My Neighbor Totoro are completely illegal in the UK."
This is flat out untrue.
I direct everyone's attention to chapter 62, in chapter 2 (http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2009/ukpga_20090025_en_5#pt2-ch2), which was linked at the Backlash website cited here.
This area is where a "prohibited image of a child" is defined.
Fact: It says that a prohibited image "is pornographic," **and** that it "falls withhin subsection (6)", **and** that it "is grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise of an obscene character."
Fact: subsection 6 covers "an image which focuses solely or principally on a child's genitals or anal region" or one of several items detailed in section seven, all of which have to do with sexual acts involving children. The emphasis is mine. Note how this contradicts the claim that "It does not matter if this image is an important part of the story, or have anything to do with “sex”, if the image is there, you broke the law." That is not true. Also notice how everything in section seven has to do with sex with children--it does NOT target simple nudity. So no, this couldn't be used to ban Dragon Ball. Specifically, section seven singles out intercourse, oral sex, penetration, or masturbation that is involving a child or in the presence of a child, with the same going for intercourse or oral sex concerning children and animals. Follow the link above and read all of it for yourself. This is not a slippery slope and it does not ban "mainstream" anime. "

fight the power
Also, don't watch the video. It has hot girl on girl action that will send you to prison.
BTW nice pick with the Needless ed :D
Guess this would mean if I lived in the UK, my Elfen Lied collection would land me in the slammer (compliments of Nana, Mayu and a young Lucy).
EDIT (reads above): Great, so a good chunk of what I have in my collection would nail me to jail and be labeled a sexual offender in the UK.
/Rant
I feel so bad for the anime fans in the UK right now.
A moment of silence for the Anime Industry (stores, cons, blogs, etc.) in England., please
