Today: Episode 6 - Swallow at the Lake Bottom

You know, you gotta wonder...why on earth did Natsume's grandmother 'capture' so many youkai only to never call them at all? I can understand her wanting companions, but she clearly didn't actually want to spend any time with them. It's very odd...and I wonder if it ever gets explained?

Maybe Reiko was going to have a big party with all her spirit friends but died unexpectedly before she could or she ended up meeting someone (I mean she had to meet at least one guy at some point given Natsume is her descendent) else she just enjoyed being around so much that she forgot about the spirits in the book of friends or she just did it for the lulz..
So anyone else wondering why the cloth Natsume was wearing over his face has the kanji for eye (目 or me)? I mean Tsubame had a picture of a bird on her's.

I wonder how long they'll have the cicada's singing they only live in adult form for 2 weeks maximum. Although than again that hasn't stopped other anime going on during the summer months and from what I hear they do have quite a few. Although not as bad as in Australia, where I hear sometimes they need hearing protection because there are so many and they can get really noisy up to 120 dB at a meter or so away.

Around here we have waves of different species of cicadas, last year a major one in June, then another in August.  Maybe Japan has multiple ones like that too.  I wish we only had one because they get stuck in the dogs hair ick.

I've not read any explanation of Reiko's behavior.  Maybe she was just a collector.  Or maybe she named her book the book of friends and added to it so she wouldn't feel so lonely, kind of a title of bitterness.  But she didn't call on them because that would have been too pitiful?

There's some kind of background story involved that the manga is just starting to get into.  I'm not sure how much it will reveal though.  I think part of what it will reveal will be an extreme distaste for being used.

@sunflower:
Cool whevever here is. I know in southern Ontario I've heard them sometimes in mid-summer for maybe a week or two.
