The show is Natsume Yuujinchou, also known as Natsume's Book of Friends in VIZ Media's English releases of the manga, and it's a 26-episode supernatural series that came out in Japan in July of 2008. The basic gist is that a boy has to release a bunch of spirits that were trapped earlier by his own grandmother.
But why am I telling you this? Let's watch the first episode!

Natsume Yuujinchou Season One

Was going to be the perfect excuse for me to finally watch it.
@gia:
Today's episode isn't working for me, I get a 7 second video saying you either need to sign up or log-in to watch :(
yeah ive seen this before its quite good but makes you feel like the world is small D:
The main point of the series...
... is Natsume learning to trust others and accept himself, and friends of all sort gather around as the series progresses to help him do that. It also develops all the characters nicely, especially Reiko through others' eyes.
That doesn't mean I'd deny people watching what I'd regard as the superior show.
@sunflower:
It still didn't work, looks like I'll have to miss this one, thanks for your help though.
The pose is a similar situation, if you mean when he's giving the names back. He only looks like Ed because both their poses are based upon those of monks doing incantations. They're both doing mystical acts, and basing them upon Japanese tradition. There too, it seems more appropriate for Natsume, but Ed looks cool doing it too so who cares. XD
so no anime for us.
But your hostility is saddening, sorry I annoyed you.
