After pulling himself back together -- literally, Mask De Masculine puts on display his full power to wipe Renji Abarai out. Will Renji be out for the three count before releasing the newly forged Zabumaru?
The strangest thing about this fight is that it's goofy as all get out, but that's part of its strange appeal. For as long as this brawl has been going on. It's remained a fun read at every step.
It's as if Renji, the serious hero, has been thrown into the ring at the Royal Rumble and has to deal with an insane method actor. You can read that in his expression to De Masculine's mask changing as his power evolves, and he appears to be just as disturbed as myself at seeing James multiply from the bloody scraps.
De Masculine then goes into an endless barrage of various attacks that ends in his Voll Stern Dich form, and that seems to have been the line. Renji has had enough of this foolishness, and the battle is about to get serious.
The biggest negative I'm taking out of this chapter is that Mask De Masculine makes for a rather ridiculous foe for Renji to be busting out his newly revived -- and possibly improved -- bankai upon. It's not that this macho-man isn't a big enough threat. He's just such doofus. His most powerful attack did little more than finally wipe out the James gang.
Well, I certainly said that I wouldn't mind if this story went on a bit further, and that seems to be what's going on. The battle is entertaining enough, but I wouldn't want this to go one too much longer. Seeing how Renji is pulling out his bankai, and De Masculine wiped out James himself. I figure this will be ending by the following chapter. We only get the smallest hint, but it appears that Zabimaru has taken on a new form.
WSJ will be on break next week and will be returning on January 20th. See you then, Super Stars!
