BLEACH Ch. 557 Review - AV MOD MATERIAL

How do you kill that which has no life...and a snazzy mustache?

By sacrificing his own heart, Sajin Komamura has created a bankai that exists with no life and can never be killed, Dangai Joue. Will this be a winning wager in the battle against the ruthless Bambietta Basterbine?

The Good

He ripped out his own heart. Your argument is invalid.
He ripped out his own heart. Your argument is invalid.

Back when I first went to see THE AVENGERS movie, I went in caring little for the characters Thor and Hulk. They personally just don't appeal to me that much. However, their brawl on the Helicarrier is one of my favorites of the film. That's the same kind of vibe I'm getting with this latest battle in BLEACH.

I've never really cared much for the character Sajin before in the series. Heck, I barely even knew how to spell his name until recently. Can you blame me? He hardly ever did much in the series. Although, he certainly has my attention now. I don't mean to give the impression that this will be the best battle of the final arc. I'm just impressed that Kubo took a character that I cared little about and got me so invested in the outcome.

You'll have heroes that figuratively put their life on the line in sh┼Źnen action. Sajin did it literally. That's some impressively loyalty.

The Bad

I can't really see much of a downside here. With maybe the exception that this seems to have been summed up a smidgen too fast. The battles have normally lasted longer, and I get this nagging feeling that this isn't the actual end for Bambietta.

Verdict 4/5

These are normally the sort of 'all-in' events that is hard to pull off outside of a finale arc. I almost wonder how long Kubo has kept this plan in his back pocket, because this seems like something he had planned a long time back. If you've been wanting some surprises and twists in BLEACH, you're sure getting them recently. This is some good story telling all around.

since he ripped his heart out, does that make him... .a hollow?

I've been enjoying Bleach so far the most since the time skip happened. I just hope the goodies and the baddies don't just keep swiching turns pulling trump card after trump card after trump card, only to be foiled and foiled and foiled again. These moments, while they have a lot of catharsis, don't showcase a battle's true struggle. I'd prefer seeing them butt heads and come out pretty evenly then for each one to take turns slowly eeking out a slight upper hand. If the heroes and villains keep shrug off character's ultimate moves only to reveal a more ultimate move it kind of diminishes the impact.

@Halberdierv2:

No, Hollows lost their heart to sorrow and despair, and their heart is formed as their masks. Sajin literally just ripped his heart out of his chest.

@zeemod155:

Huh, most I hear from say they don't like BLEACH post time-skip. I like it alright. It's given some nice characters, and I love Tatsuki's long hair.

I'm also concerned about trumping the trump cards issue. I covered that in a previous review.

I have a feeling Bambietta going to use a second form in the next chapter

Anyway, I do like the Zombie Werewolf Ghost now :)

Sajin's fate in this chapter somehow manages to feel sadder than if he had actually died. I really hope Kubo and renji have more to show us than new outfits, which meant nothing whatsoever in the fullbring arc
