BLADE & SOUL #7 is A Riveting Episode!

Special Review. Yes, riveting.

Can’t say I’ve ever used ‘riveting’ as an adjective to describe a single episode I’ve watched here, but…

This installment seized my attention and ran with it by doing the exact opposite of what you’d expect from a stereotypical anime based on a MMO. It’d be so easy to throw a bunch of cool shit around - - more big battles, more flashy powers, maybe even some mechs - - and this instead opts to slow things way down and scrap most of the frills off. Seriously, I never thought I’d be so excited about our assassin taking a weekend off in some quiet pacifist commune.

Once again, it’s plain to see that the reason this crew gets away with using cool shit is they fully understand its effects (and they’re interested in exploring it within the show). Hell, you could probably conflate Alka herself with all that cool shit, and have a tidy thematic metaphor...

She’s so closely identified with her sword, and every normal person she interacts with might as well be cut by the experience. She’s the reason the girl from the first episode fell in with this cult. She isn't self-conscious of her appearance, but the sight of her terrifies the more sensitive members of the commune. When the twist finally arrives, the crazed matriarch running this village is on such a lower threat level, she as well be a joke to Alka. She doesn't know how to wield a blade.

I especially liked the fact that, for the most parts, these loopy cultists are actually right. Seeking revenge isn’t going to ultimately help Alka. The writers know that, but they also know that revenge is still more entertaining to watch, so here’s our show. It doesn’t get maudlin about any of this - - it just understands it all, matter-of-factly. After a few hiccups, I’m back to digging the show and, now, I’m very curious if they might actually give this whole revenge saga a tragic ending.

Watch “Time” and decide for yourself, then read my comments on the previous episode.

Lol, told ya, this episode had my jaw on the floor, This show is far more intelligent than it appears to be On the surface, chalk it up to good writing, It proves that you can have a stoic lead like Alka And still have our attention,

Revenge is the theme of the show. In more ways than one. Eh um would you not consider whats gone on so far tragic as well tho? Also Tom ya may have the wrong idea all mmorpgs are lacking story. Good stories at that. But your dead on for the praise of GONZOs writers ( um who are they ? an what have they done before? ) because the mmorpg of Blade and soul seems um thin.. http://us.bladeandsoul.com/en/game-overview/ Oh theirs a current vid their but heres the game play vid..

see how many characters from the show ya can spot in this trailer..

Kinda noticed all the fighting was mostly solo. No group play in this video hardly.
