Berserk, Baki the Grappler, and Barefoot Gen Pitched For Hollywood Awesomesauce

Someone wants to see these manga be made into films, and his name is Northrop Davis.

Remember way back when the New People cultural entertainment center in San Francisco’s Japan town opened? Yes, I know it was a long time ago, but please bear with me here. Northrop Davis, a professional screenwriter, professor of anime/manga, and super pitchman, was at the grand opening lecturing about the awesome person that he is with my main man Patrick Macias of Otaku USA fame, when he dropped a bomb of epic proportions onto the audience. When asked what projects he is currently working on, he enlightened the audience that he has pitched the Berserk, Baki the Grappler, and Barefoot Gen manga to Hollywood studios! Northrop Davis is no ordinary pitchman, he has already sold a pitch for the Battle Angel Alita manga, that James Cameron is supposedly working on, and the rights to Train Man (Densha Otoko). His words are as follows:

We were involved with [Kentarou Miura's fantasy adventure story] Berserk, and it almost happened, but that is not quite there. Train Man has been a very [long] two-year, ongoing negotiation — very complicated. Phil Rosenthal, who created [the American television series] Everybody Loves Raymond, wants to remake the show in the United States. Phil wants to really adhere to the wonderful work that the Japanese creators did on that. And, also, we're involved in [Keisuke Itagaki's fighting tournament story] Grappler Baki.

And one that is really close to our hearts is Barefoot Gen. We're really, really trying to find someone to make Barefoot Gen because we feel that it is incredibly important to bring the message that that conveys to the world. [Creator Keiji] Nakazawa has given us permission to work on that. For those of you who don't know, that's the atomic bomb project, where [the author] was in the atomic bomb fallout, survived it, and went on to create a wonderful series. If you've never seen it, you should read it.

So there you have it, we might be getting a couple new anime Hollywood adaptions later in the future. I’m so pumped in imagining a live-action Berserk film. With the right director, it could really shine; like Peter Jackson for example. Though on the other hand the manga is not finished yet, so maybe this film should wait until it is completed. What do you think?

Berserk would work but it would get Fist of the North Star'd in the live action case...

Baki would work if it got Heavy UFC Backing.
