No, Harold Sakuishi isn't going to an Elizabethan Fair. Well, maybe he is, but if so I don't know a thing about it. What I DO know is that Sakuishi, best known for his extremely popular rock manga BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, is moving into a rather different topic: Shakespearean tales.
According to the Mainichi, Sakuishi is going to be working on manga adaptations of seven of Shakespeare's plays, to be collectively known as Shichinin no Shakespeare. I'm not quite sure how to interpret the name-- it's literally something like "7 People's Shakespeare," and it could, for example, refer to seven Shakespearean characters, or seven Shakespeares himself. In any case, the plays are:
- Hamlet
- Macbeth
- Othello
- King Lear
- Romeo and Juliet
- The Merchant of Venice
And...I'm not sure about the seventh one. Or wait, maybe it's only six plays, but Romeo and Juliet is two characters, hence the "seven"? Hm, not totally sure. But I bet they'll be interesting...I wonder how they'll compare to Self-Made Comics' Manga Shakespeare line? (And Gonzo's Romeo x Juliet?)

The man behind BECK doing a manga of 3 of my favourite Shakespeare plays. One word, Sold.
I wonder what he would do with something like Twelfth Night or better yet A Midsummer's Night Dream given that they are comedies and all the plays listed are tragedies, with the exception of The Merchant of Venice.
Although it still has some fairly dramatic and serious tones to it despite stuff like the scenes with Lancelot and quite a bit of comic relief. So while still being a comedy it is quite dark compared to the others.
