Battle Royal: Amuro vs. Heero

The winner is the one with the red shell.

When two amazing Gundam pilots battle each other it usually comes down to the weapons, armor, and special features of the actual robot and not the pilot themselves. That sucks, because the Gundam anime was created to take the emphasis off the robots, and onto the people who control them. So how about we throw away these giant robots and put two interesting pilots in something a little more fun.

Who would win in a Mario Kart Race, Amuro Ray from the Original Gundam, or Heero Yuy from Gundam Wing?

Rainbow Road
Rainbow Road

Rules

The rules for Mario Kart are simple. First you have to work for Nintendo, which I guess means we are already going to be breaking rule number one, but whatever. Second, each race has three laps, and for this race the only place that matters is the number one spot. Third, items will be allowed just like in the game, so this will not be a 100% race based on skill; there needs to be a little spice to make it interesting. Finally, there will be no other people participating in this race other than Amuro and Heero.

Setting

Of course this epic match won’t be played on a boring course found in the Mushroom Cup. No, these are Gundam pilots, they naturally do battle in space! So this match will be fought on Rainbow Road, the final track in every Mario Kart game to date. Here there are no guard rails, insane hairpin turns, and the occasional loose Chain Chomp.

Amuro Ray

Amuro is the main character from the original Gundam anime. He is the hero of the One Year War, and helped save the Earth from Char’s Counterattack years later. He just so happens to be the next evolved form of man, named Newtype. Newtypes have a heightened mental awareness, and the ability to use basic ESP powers.

Regardless, Amuro is a genius at using technology; for example he was able to start up a Gundam and defeat two attacking Zaku on his first try. For this race, we will use the Amuro from after the original series. At this point he is a seasoned and skilled pilot, able to hold his own, even with a headless Gundam. Dispite his skill, Amuro can sometimes be overemotional, which can put him at a disadvantage on the battle field.

Heero Yuy

Unlike Amuro, Heero was raised as a killer. Not much is known about his past, except that he was an assassin before becoming a Gundam pilot. Because of this Heero is seen as being emotionless. This is not always a bad thing because he can keep a calm mind while in the thick of battle.

Heero is a professional; he does his homework before missions, and will do whatever it will take to make it successful, unlike Amuro who is more spontaneous. However, when things go bad, Heero has a tendency to self destruct his vehicle. We will use the Heero from after the original series.

The Battle

Amuro, confident that he will win, is taken aback when Heero peels away when the light turns green. Heero was prepared, like he always is, and looked up how to do the start boost on gamefaqs. However, this lead will short and sweet because an item box will be sure to give him an item that Amuro can use to strip Heero from first place. I suspect that both are so talented at firing weapons that each time someone gets an item, their places will switch. They will constantly switch back and forth throughout the first and second lap, but the third will be different. By this time both will have a true handle on their carts, and know exactly how each item works. The winner will be the one that learns the fastest, and makes use of any advantage given to him.

The Winner

Let’s face it, the Gundams in Gundam Wing were built a lot stronger than the ones in the original. Heero was used to soaking up tons of damage with the Wing, instead of dodging. While Amuro on the other hand had to dodge almost every attack, or else he would die. With that said I believe Amuro will be the winner because of his ability to dodge Heero’s attacks.

Throughout the fight Amuro will learn how to use the items. By the third lap he will be able to attack Heero from first place. How does he do this? By using his Newtype powers to control a shell like a fin funnel. With the right shot he would be able to hit Heero while he is turning and force him to fall from the Rainbow Road, throwing away any hope for victory.

First off, Heero's kart should have the ZERO system. Second Heero surpasses Amuro in piloting. To Amuro it was special to beat say 10 grunts, Heero takes out 50+ in a sitting and is cool. Even when Heero was in a grunt Leo he took out many suits and even held his own against Wu Fei's Ultran, Amuro could not do the same. The GW pilots are just to super powered (breaking steel bars with bare hands anyone?) and skilled to lose here. Heero was only one of two ppl who could master the ZERO system, Amuro would need a "funnel" item to even have a shot here, imagine Heero and Amuro in beam sabre only duel? Heero would win, Heero is just better. That being said Amuro would still beat Kira.

My Inner fanboy says Herro Yuy

Took down a Zaku [well that thing that looked like a zaku] with a bazooka so yeah
cfatalison June 3, 2010 at 12:29 a.m.
does heeroa have his PIS power ?
GodLen staff on June 3, 2010 at 12:53 a.m.
@cfatalis:  i believe that was part of the zero system
cfatalison June 3, 2010 at 1:16 a.m.
@GodLen: no, no PIS power

OZ pilot cannot shoot properly for their own life, so that when Heero walks in with a LEO they are unable to shoot the Leo even though ti's walking straight
and also All gundam wing grunt mobile suit is made of PAPER (no seriously beaten by bazooka?, or vulcan?) check MS igloo to see how durable even a zaku or a tank from UC

@hitsusatsu11:  I wouldnt credit the Wing pilots as being strong in all those areas, but rather their opponents as being weak and their equipment being superior to anything else around. Amuro might be a newtype, but he was still a rookie and beat several aces without any training. Sure, Heero beat heaps of grunts, but there was nothing to them. Im not saying Heero is weak, just that I think Amuro has better skills to win something like this, although it would be a close call.

And if we had all Gundam protagonists competing, I would say Garrod is the winner. Being resourceful and imaginative helps a lot. Not to mention he was on par with newtypes without being one himself, all earned through hard work. I love a show that lets the main character grow over the course of the series.

@Lance_McCloud: Garrod, or Lowe

Doesn't a 'battle royal' involve three or more participants? Maybe you're thinking of a 'duel'.
Lance_McCloudon June 3, 2010 at 7:52 a.m.
@cfatalis:  Lowe is another great contender. And if nothing else, he could always fix his cart after the race or super mod it beforehand.
MercuryCrusaderon June 3, 2010 at 8:11 a.m.
@hitsusatsu11:  Don't make me get into a debate as to why Amuro could beat Heero in a mobile suit battle, my head hurts just thinking about it.  :(  Also, did you even watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam? The RX-78-2 Gundam was already obsolete by the time Zeon was churning out all these new suits, and Amuro was still holding his own against both grunts piloting technologically superior mobile suits as well as veteran pilots using said new suits (Ramba Ral, not a newtype but still a more experienced pilot, in the Gouf, as well as Char in almost every mobile suit customized for his use, and he had not only experience but was also a newtype).  You're basically comparing a guy who used an obsolete mobile suit to fight off an enemy that had the technologcal and skill advantage versus a guy who used an overpowered mobile suit to clear out several inferior units. Ah, see, my head hurts now. :(  Basically, give them both Zakus and see which one wins, keeping in mind that the Zaku isn't equipped with a ZERO system, Heero has more piloting expereince if we are talking about 0079 Amuro and not Char's Counterattack Amuro, and Amuro is still a newtype.  In that case, Heero has an advantage.  CCA Amuro would win otherwise.

Besides, Char would win by a combination of opportunity, skill, and newtype ability. It also helps that he'd launch nothing but red shells everywhere, and his kart is red making it three times faster than a normal kart.
cfatalison June 3, 2010 at 8:14 a.m.
@Lance_McCloud: there's also graham aker who would forgo everything for speed
Catolfon June 3, 2010 at 8:19 a.m.
as much as my fangirl would demand that I say Heero, i think Amuro would win.

He'd be happy and then Heero would pop a cap between his eyes.

but Amuro won the race! XD

@MercuryCrusader: Yes I've seen MSG.

@Lance_McCloud: I don't think so, the Virgo Mk1 and 2 are some of if not the strongest grunts in all of Gundam.
Vinceborgon June 3, 2010 at 9:21 a.m.
The correct answer is Kamille Bidan.

psssh easily penetrable shield and targetting system that couldn't hit anything worthy?
Ryuku_Ryosakeon June 3, 2010 at 10:31 a.m.
Seriously there is no way Heero Yuy could defeat Amuro. Amuro's Gundam, the Guntank, and the Guncannon. Were the Federations only three mobile suits for half the series and they won the war. Guess why? Amuro. A stated before the RX-78 is outdated by the first time he hits the earth.  Even then he still beats more experienced pilots in better MS and his newtype potential wasn't even developed then. The cut to something like the battle outside Side 6 where he defeats 9 vastly superior units in under 3 minutes. That's like a Leo beating all of the original Wing Gundams single handed. He then goes on to fight better Newtypes then him in Newtype specific MS and still defeat them. Amuro pretty much wins the war single handily.

Heero what absorbs bullets for the first half of the series. Then when he gets beat he gets a better mobile suit so can absorb bullets even better. For all of his experience he can't be that much better than Char who has experience and actual warfare experience. The main point being Amuro was always held back by his machine while Heero was made better because of his machine. As a lot of you have pointed out with the ZERO system
cfatalison June 3, 2010 at 10:47 a.m.
@Ryuku_Ryosake: the funny thing? gundam wing never displayed the durability of it's series in games such as SRW and G Gen
hitsusatsu11on June 3, 2010 at 11:15 a.m.
@cfatalis: ?? Mk 1 and 2 were (probably) constructed of Gundanium  and have magnetic shield. If one Virgo Mk 2 were in MSG it would kill Amuro. Not to mention the're mobile dolls. And Durability? The WZ and the rest are practically indestructible in RR, the amount of hits it would take to destroy even Hi Nu wouldn't even scratch WZ's paint. Gundanium is better than plot armor.

Heero in a Leo vs Amuro in a Zaku, Heero would win. Heero adapts to any suit and fights well, like with the Merquise and Vayette. UC Gundams are more realistic in warfare, GW is basically unstoppable. Remember when they tried to blow WZ with enough explosives for 3 MS, and WZ was unefected?

Heero and Zechs are extremely skilled, so are Amuro and Char, but imo not on the same level. It is a credit that Heero and Zechs could be able to pilot the Zero system.

Then there's this guy.

cfatalison June 3, 2010 at 11:20 a.m.
@hitsusatsu11: meh it's not like heero actually got shot either, if anything Heero plot armor is as thick as kira, of course they would kill MSG, see technological difference, mobile doll is inferior to human pilot, yes explosive to blow 3 paper MS, amuro died holding back a giant asteroid using his version of magic fairy dust
Hi-nu from the novel is for all intent and purpose is Invulnerable as it tackles on nearly all neo zeon mobile suit and WIN, and still can WIN against Char Aznable using Nightingale

Dig Deeper into Heero Yuy

Arguably the main character of Gundam Wing, he is one of the original five Gundam pilots and pilots the Wing Gundam and Wing Gundam Zero. Despite his young age, he is a trained professional with little emotion and extensive knowledge and piloting experience.
